Still the benchmark.

Better suspension technology is allowing longer travel full-suspension bikes to go faster than ever, but you need a bar that can keep up. Easton's EC70 Carbon Handlebar is wide, at 720mm, so it allows greater cornering leverage. There are two rise options; 20mm and 40mm, so you can custom-fit your riding position to be more neutral for all-mountain or more aggressive for cross-country.

Obviously, the other benefit of the EC70 Carbon Handlebar has to do with the material. Nothing damps vibration as well as carbon, and no manufacturer is more experienced with the stuff than Easton. They've been working with carbon fiber for two decades. Here they use TaperWall shaping to pare away all extraneous material and to keep the bar as light as possible, all while reinforcing high stress joints, such as where the riser bar bends.

All models of the EC70 Carbon Handlebar are made with Easton's EC70 Carbon. Both the 20mm and 40mm rise models feature a 9° backsweep and a 5° upsweep and are available in Matte Carbon.

Good Bar

  • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

I used this bar to raise the cockpit up on my Cannondale F-29 hard tail XC bike. There's nothing not to like: Simple low-key (grey'd out) graphics, strong, light, fair-priced, and an effective alignment guide graphic to center the stem. The 2014 is wider than previous models, and the slightly wide 720mm size is a good compromise for my XC riding. I have an earlier 685mm wide version on my other trail bike and prefer the new wider bar a lot.

Awesome bar, even for the big boys

  • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

I've used the 20mm rise model on my last 2 builds, its stiff, light, and reasonably priced if you catch it on sale. The sweep and rise make the grip position very natural and comfortable even for longer rides lasting a couple hours. I have mine paired with some very light and thin foam XC grips and love it.
