Tugging the mountain bike along in awkward growth spurts, market trends have bounced from one extreme to another. Those waves, however, are diminishing as the modern mountain bike finds its groove. Take Easton's EA70 XL 29in Wheel for example. It has a slightly wider rim profile than the regular EA70 for riders that need more volume without indulging in the heft or durability of a Haven wheelset.

The EA70 XL shares the Easton EA70 aluminum rim construction as its XC-focused stablemate, only the XL is a millimeter wider. This also includes Easton's hallmark welding process that'll prevent failure upon heavy impacts. And adding to both durability and long-term serviceability, the EA70 XL uses 24 standard, straight-pull double-butted spokes on both the front and rear.

For dependable rolling, the wheels are laced to Easton's X4 hubs, which are compatible with any six-bolt rotors. The rears have four bearings for excellent strength, while the front features two.

The Easton EA70 XL 29in Wheel is available individually as 15mm front and a 10x135/12x142mm rear with end caps installed.
