No way a bare-footer with handlebar tassels is going to beat you.
The Easton EA70 XC 29-inch Wheels falls nicely into a gaping hole in the world of mountain bike wheels. Known for its stiffness and durability, the EA70 is tough enough for trail riding and light enough for XC race, all without breaking the bank. It may not be the lightest wheelset on the market, but it's certainly light enough for daily hammering. And what good is light weight if your wheels are so flexy that they rub on your stays and fork legs? This is not a problem that you'll find with the EA70.
Starting at the rim, Easton constructed the EA70 from its EA70 aluminum. This signature alloy combines the durability of aluminum with the light weight of carbon, contributing to the wheels' svelte overall weight of around 1950 grams. As for the durability side of things, the wheels benefit from EA90 technology at the rim. If you take a good look over the rim's surface, you'll notice Easton's hallmark welding process. This measure ensures that the wheel will respond hit after hit, without the worry of failure upon heavy impacts.
Going even further into the world of 'durability,' it would seem like Easton did a little soul searching into what this word really means. Sure, there's one part of the equation that concerns itself with impact resistance on the trail, but there's a second, more obvious, piece of the puzzle that commonly goes ignored. Of course, we're talking about longevity. And since the EA70 rim will probably outlast your grandkids, there were some simple measures that Easton took to ensure that the componentry of the wheels are easily replaceable. So, the EA70 uses 24 standard, straight-pull, double-butted spokes on the front and rear, and it also uses standard sealed cartridge bearings. You can find these spokes and bearings in any shop, eliminating the lengthy waiting period for a manufacturer to have them in stock and to ship them to you. Additionally, when you're on the trail, these features add to the wheels snappy engagement and smooth, reliable handling.
For dependable rolling, the wheels have been laced to Easton's X2 hubs that are compatible with any six-bolt rotors. The EA70 is available as a 15mm front and as a 135 QR rear.
The Easton EA70 XC 29-in Wheels are available in the color Black and in the aforementioned axle configurations. Please note that these wheels are sold individually, and that sealant and tape are not included.

I have these wheels on one of my bikes a they are an awesome wheel set . Very robust, firm, I felt the change immediately, the bike was more firm on the road and on the trails. They are not tubeless but I made it that way, very simple to make. I've been using it for more than a year on the trails without a bump on the rim and no broken spokes. I'm very, very pleased with them.
I upgraded to the EA70 XC's from the wheels that came stock on my Specialized Camber 29er about 18 months ago. I've got nothing but good things to say about the EA70's, if you don't feel like dropping a grand on a wheel upgrade then these are for you. They aren't as light as the latest-and-greatest composite wheels, but they handled aggressive trail riding and 2-3 foot drops under my 245lb rear end for almost two years without complaint. That's pretty remarkable as I exceed the maximum recommended weight limit for most of the higher-end and high-dollar wheelsets on the market in my birthday suit. I recently upgraded to a burlier wheelset and sold the EA70's, they did not need to be trued either during or after being rallied for over 1,000 trail miles. Now the bad: The bearings in the rear hub did show some signs of wear when I sold them, the freehub still spun smoothly but there was a noticeable difference from when the bearings when new. However, my experiences with Easton's customer service have all been fantastic, they sent me replacement rear hub bearings (which I passed along to the purchaser) under warranty without me even providing a receipt or proof of purchase. While I can't speak to this, I have heard about problems with riders snapping spokes and having a difficult time replacing them. The spokes, nipples, and hubs are all proprietary Easton products that are incompatible with third-party products, however I can't imagine that it would be difficult to obtain replacements from Easton, either under warranty or not. In summary, the EA70's feel like a much more expensive wheelset, are fairly light, hold up well under heavier riders who make other wheelsets cry, and the parent company has excellent customer service. They are really the perfect budget wheelset ugprade.
