Not just luck.

We all know how exciting that first tug on a line can feel, once we realize that it definitely wasn't a piece of seaweed or a rock, but an insistent jerk that could only have been delivered by a living, breathing creature. Evoking thoughts of long days in the sun, fighting and pulling to bring a fish to the surface, sometimes only to throw it back, Diamondback's Catch One Complete Mountain Bike brings that same thrill of the chase to the trails. Boasting Diamondback's completely new Level Link suspension platform, the Catch One arrives complete with all of the versatility, plush ride characteristics, and exaggerated grip of 27.5+ compatibility.

The Catch One doesn’t have much company in its price range, and it manages to come out of the box with a valuable drivetrain and spec list without inflating to the cost of a used car. One of the main ways Diamondback maintains this accessibility is through its use of hydro-formed aluminum tubing for the frame. Lightweight and durable, aluminum will tip the scales higher than carbon, but unlike carbon, the less expensive metal delivers a more pronounced immunity to cracks and frame damage in the event of a run-in with an unyielding rock garden on the side of the trail. Diamondback adopts Boost spacing for the rear hubs, which stiffens and reinforces the entire rear triangle. While the 17.5in chainstays aren't the stubbiest we've seen, the Boost rear spacing stiffens them up enough for efficient power transfer on the ups, and the 68-degree head tube strikes a moderate balance of aggression on the climbs and the descents alike.

With such a capable frame design, Diamondback decided it was time for a serious suspension upgrade. Its all-new Level Link suspension looks to seriously change the ride quality of the brand's bikes by introducing a short link, four-bar system that isolates pedaling forces from travel. This translates to impacts being able to act on the system even while you're pedaling, so you get a smooth ride on a climb laced with overlapping roots but the rear wheel stays glued to the trail. In addition, Level Link anticipates and manages chain growth while displaying anti-squat tendencies and helping to resist brake dive when trail conditions necessitate a sudden stop.

Of course, Level Link needs an equally capable shock and fork to show off its abilities, and on the Catch One, Diamondback includes a FOX 34 Float fork and RockShox Monarch RT Debonair shock, loyally softening hard hits on descents that you thought only catered to bigger enduro sleds. 130mm of travel in the front and rear lend the Catch One the cool confidence of a bigger bike without impeding its quickness on climbs that would leave slower bikes struggling.

Diamondback spec's the Catch One with a reliable SRAM drivetrain, including GX and X7 componentry and a double crankset that deliver a wide range of gear ratios to keep you spinning the pedals quickly on the trails. The 28mm internal width of Diamondback's Blanchard rims provide a healthy platform for the robust, 2.8in Kenda Havok tires to sit atop, ensuring the tires are ready to grab hold of slick, inconsistent stretches of trail while adding a dose of plushness to your ride compared to traditional 27.5in tires.
