First impression is positive

  • Familiarity: I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions

I just got these setup with Time ATAC cleats and tested - I'll come back and provide additional thoughts after I have some miles in them. First ,size, a touch bigger than pearl izumi, which I thought ran small. A 43 is a true 9.5 u.s. similar to Shimano in size. Build looks good for the price. The full shoe is an artificial leather-like product with vent holes. My son asked if I got new soccer boots. The mounting plate threw me for a second - there is a little mounting-hole cover that I figured out you do leave in place. Mounting holes are a touch further forward than some shoes - I ended up with the plate pushed all the way back, but using the front holes.

So far, I would say very good value at discount, not worth full price compared to other brands.

OK, I've put in about 300 miles in these over 8 to 10 rides. I think my first impression holds. They are comfortable for 3 hour rides, have decent grip at stoplights, and there is no indication of early wear. Impression of good value still holds true.

I'm a road biker but like the feature of being able to walk in these without ruining the clip system. Is this correct and what kind of peddles do i need for this shoe. I am used to the Look type clip.
Thanks,
Jeff

Hey Jeff,
In order to make these shoes work you'll have to use a mountain bike style pedal, one with a 2 hole cleat. If you're using a 3 hole cleat these aren't going to work.
Of course there is nothing keeping you from running mountain pedals on a road bike so that is still a good option.
If you have any other questions or need anything else please let us know.

I've been running TIME ATAC pedals and cleats for years on mountain, cross, and road bikes - partially so I only need one set of shoes, and partially so I can walk around. I previously had SPD, and like the ATAC much better - they work well with these shoes.

On walking, these are fine, the cleats are protected, but you won't want to walk for miles in them - they are cycling shoes, not X-over. I like these shoes for riding, and they are great for popping into the coffee shop, or taking the elevator up to the office, but I have some Shimano lace-ups (the cheapest model they offer I believe) for riding around town when I am going to be off of the bike playing catch with my son in the park for an hour and such. The Diadoras are definitely better on long rides, but not for long walks.
