Vortex-Pro II Cycling Shoe

Whether you train continuously and race only occasionally or find yourself eagerly anticipating next year's race lineup already, Diadora's Vortex-Pro II men's Shoes were designed to seamlessly transfer every one of your hard-earned watts directly to your pedals while you ride. They're Diadora's pro-level road cycling shoes, so they're crafted with the type of close attention to detail that we and the riders on Movistar — who are using this model in 2016 — expect from a shoe at this level. This updated version of the Vortex-Pro carries over many of the features ridden in races by the likes of Valverde and Quintana last year while incorporating a few well-executed improvements to the shoes' Suprell-Tech uppers to enhance an already impressive offering.

While this year's version still features the same effective mix of Suprell-Tech microfiber and ventilating Air Mesh on a contoured race last, the Vortex-Pro II's uppers now have subtler perforations with a matte finish — a nod to the recent explosion in popularity of matte paint schemes on frames. The Vortex-Pro has never been known for being the lightest pro-level shoe on the market, and the second version doesn't attempt to change that reputation. However, what you sacrifice in weight, you gain in stiffness, with the Vortex Pro II coming in at an incredibly rigid 12.0 on the stiffness scale.

The Vortex-Pro II's considerable rigidity can be attributed to its Pro Road outsole, which is made with full 3k carbon fiber. This outsole is then covered with Diadora's proprietary NET Breathing System, which keeps mud and debris out while encouraging ventilation. On the inside of the shoe, a perforated EVA foam insole adds shape and contouring along the arch and bottom of the foot, while a shaped heel cup keeps the shoe locked in place. Finally, two low-profile Boa dials — a feature that has become ubiquitous in pro-level shoes — allow you to fine-tune the fit quickly and easily before a ride or during one from the saddle.
