One of the Best Commuter Backpack

I have been using this back pack for more than six months now. One of the best commuter back. It keeps your back cool during summer ride, and the rain sleeve comes in handy in the rain.

Dear Ms, Madam or Sir: Is there a sleeve for a laptop. And what is the maximum size of laptop that can be accommodated by this backpack? Please advise.

The Deuter Futura 28 Backpack has a hydration sleeve that many people repurpose as a laptop sleeve. It can fit up to a 13" laptop.

Hello i am interested in getting the Futura 28 can you confirm whether it can hold a 17" laptop?

The largest laptop I have heard someone carrying in the sleeve of the Deuter Futura 28. Based on the dimensions of the bag listed above in the tech specs, I would not expect it to be capable of holding a 17".

Hello, I am interested in getting the Deuter Futura 28 Backpack, and would like to use it to carry my Apple 15" Macbook Pro laptop. Can you confirm whether this laptop, inside of a sleeve, will fit in this backpack?

If you check out Nathan's review below, he states the following:

"The hydration sleeve fits a 3L Camelbak or a 15 inch laptop"

    This should work for you!

    BOMB PROOF Day/Lightweight Pack

    • Gender:Male
    • Familiarity:I've put it through the wringer

I love this pack. I've had it for about two years now, and it's taken everything I can throw at it.

It's super comfortable, and rides well high up on my back for scrambling over rocks and hills, or lower for high mileage This really is a full size backpack shrunk down to daypack size. The frame, suspension, and load shifters all feel like they're from a weekend pack.

The pack itself is quite handy. The main compartment is decent sized, and has a divider between the top and the sleeping bag compartment. The hydration sleeve fits a 3L Camelbak or a 15 inch laptop. The bottom compartment is large enough for my 35 degree sleeping bag, but if I put it in a stuff sack it takes some wrangling to get it in there.

I?ve done a three day summer overnight on the AT with it. The pack fit my hammock, rain jacket, and food wonderfully. When I was working at a summer camp in Texas, I could fit a climbing helmet, harness, gloves, water, and ropes gear in it with no problems. At school, it eats my laptop, rain gear, textbooks, and pretty much anything else I want to put in it.

My only complaints are minor. It's not a pack for the super organized. The smaller pockets are useless for anything large, and if you cinch the pack down, anything in the pockets bulges out, making the pack look like it suddenly developed a bunch of headlamp and stove shaped tumors.

Also, the two main cinch straps run right over the water bottle pockets. Not bad, but if you put a Nalgene in it, it makes cinching the pack down tight harder. The pack tends to cinch out away from my back, instead of closer to it, but that's only when it's super full.

Overall, this is a great daypack/lightweight overnight pack. Highly recommend it, and will be replacing it with another one when it wears out!

    BOMB PROOF Day/Lightweight Pack

    Great pack!

I originally bought the Futura 28 in 2002. I used it for 10 years with both hard and softer use. It recently made its last trek and needed replacement.

This newer model is great but seems to be a little bit less of a bag than the older one. It is missing an internal pocket and the external pocket is much smaller than before. I often made full use of those pockets on the old one and it is hard adjusting. If you are not big into small pockets, no big deal to you then.

The amazing comfort is still there though. I love how the pack feels on my shoulders and the chest and waist straps made it all that much better for longer treks. I wish the waist strap was detachable since it is a smaller pack and is not always necessary. I just attach the strap together behind the mesh and it is not a big deal.

That brings me to the mesh. I love the mesh. It is fantastic during hotter days and can really keep your back ventilated. I will often place a book in there for easy access too.

The rain cover is also a great feature. You never even know it is there but is super handy when rain hits. I Have noticed also that if you place the cover just right to cover the mesh. That air buffer trapped between you and the pack makes for some good insulation to keep you warmer.

Overall, great pack. I only wish that the pockets had not changed

Solid pack for day hikes & general use

Full disclosure: I am a long-time fan of Deuter, and I currently own both this and the Futura 42. I tend to prefer the 42 more for longer frontcountry trips and for overnight (or short multi-day) backcountry trips. I have been extremely satisfied with the construction quality, comfort, and reliability of both packs.

The Futura 28 is a great day pack that can easily and comfortably support a day's worth of food/water/layers/etc. The excellent frame and hip belt convey the advantages of a larger pack in terms of support, but it's not overly bulky or heavy. The built-in rain cover is a plus, too.

The only downside is that---other than the bottle holders and the main compartment that divides into two---there is only one proper pocket. A better spot for valuables than the front pocket would be a nice addition.

This pack is also my go-to for daily use around the city (jacket, gym clothes, an apple, and a book). It is comfortable and stylish, as long as you don't mind the hip belt. The frame does arch away from your back a bit, which some people may dislike. Personally, that doesn't bother me. All around, it's way cooler than your roommate's North Face.

I see that there are pole attachments but does this version have an ice axe loop on the other side? It is not visible in the picture.

There is one Ice Axe loop on the right side of the pack.

No, it does not. I usually clip it behind the mesh and it stays out of the way pretty well.

Does this have an internal zipped mesh pocked in the main compartment?

Yes, it has one, but it is very shallow, and fairly small. It's really only big enough for a set of keys, or maybe a power bar or two.

Does this have a water source as part of the pack?

It does not come with a bladder and hose, but it is equipped to handle a hydration system.
