Spend winter riding.

De Marchi's elegantly simple Thermal Bib Tights for Women have only a couple of key variations from the men's version, including a shaped meant to fit your body and a higher front panel, which provides more insulation and additional support. The active ingredients remain the same: saddle-friendly paneling, minimal seams, a stealthy aesthetic, and insulating fabric. The results are the same, too, letting your ride comfortably into the mid-30s of the long winter.

The Tights are built from De Marchi's Roubaix-Type fabric, which has a soft, brushed lining for comfortable touch on your skin and temperatures in your microclimate. Nothing's worse than overheating in the middle of a cold ride and spending a final, miserable hour spinning in a clammy chill, so De Marchi incorporated ventilating panels in the back. This means the Thermal Bib Tights don't just insulate; they also regulate, keeping your body's temperature in the ideal range while evacuating any moisture from the inside.

The fit is designed with pre-shaped panels that conform to your body while in the cycling position, and the nylon and Lycra blend of the Roubaix material provides gentle compression and a firm, secure feel that the higher front panel extends to your chest. The few seams De Marchi needed to assemble the tights are flatlocked and avoid sensitive areas like the knee caps to eliminate abrasion during repetitive motions. The short front zipper allows for a secure, supportive fit in the upper chest. De Marchi finishes the Thermal Bib Tights with the women's-specific Flanders chamois, which is designed to provide enough cushioning for base-building rides of two or three hours.

What an unexpected treat!

  • Gender: Female
  • Familiarity: I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions

So...I purchased this with a lot of reservations, all of which seem silly now that I've tried it on. Even when I took it out of the box, I was a bit nervous about the leg length. I'm 5'9 with a 32-1/2 inseam. All for naught. It fits beautifully and is soft and delicate yet the bib doesn't feel or seem flimsy or cheap, and based on De Marchi's reputation, I have no doubt that it'll do what they say it'll do: keep me warm and comfortable on 20- to 40-mile rides during western Montana's long winters. I am kind of hoping the temperatures will drop for a day or two so that I can try it out. I ordered the large and feel as though a medium would have worked as well, given that I'm between sizes and recently upped my activity level. I like that it fits close to the body but isn't so tight that my movements feel restricted. The medium likely would have felt that way. For reference, I'm 5'9", weight 165#, have a 34D chest, 29-inch waist, and 40-inch hip. Highly recommended!
