Description

In true Italian tradition, De Marchi's new Leggera collection was designed with an obsessive focus on the details of both fabric and fit. Modeled after its warm-weather Pro Jersey, the Leggera uses 100% Italian materials, along with a fit and graphic treatment that were inspired by professional team kits. Together, these inspirations create one of the most structured, body-supporting jerseys available on the market today. It's these seemingly small elements, combined with the brand's rich history, that continue to make De Marchi the top apparel choice of discerning cyclists around the world.

For the construction of the Leggera, De Marchi used its Dry3 Micro fabric for its airy composition and low weight. This material breathes better than most nylon/Lycra blends, and it rapidly transfers moisture away from your skin to its quick-drying outer-layer. Combined with these lightweight and thermo-regulating properties, Dry3 Micro also stretches in order to wrap and support your upper body and arm muscles while in the cycling position. By selecting a single fabric for the jersey's entirety, De Marchi was able to create panels that smoothly transition from one to another without any disturbance. This means that the jersey's seams all but disappear, which leads to better aerodynamics than other jerseys relying on several mixed fabric panels.

De Marchi focused equally on implementing lightweight technical fabrics into the Leggera as it did refining the jersey's fit. The goal of the Leggera was to create a streamlined jersey with both a maximum freedom of movement and the most breathable, lightweight materials available. This anatomical fit was made possible using its Contour Technology as a means to stabilize the jersey while in the cycling position. This was accomplished using pre-shaped fabric panels that closely follow the body while in motion. When sewn together, these panels form somewhat of a three dimensional shape on their own, mimicking the body before even reaching your shoulders. The result is a jersey that eliminates all unnecessary material, leading to the best fit possible.

Equally valued by De Marchi are its finishing details. The Leggera is no exception, with its thin fully-divisible front zipper, three rear-panel pockets, and oversized high visibility reflective elements throughout. Small, square De Marchi logos tastefully adorn the jersey's front and rear.

The De Marchi Leggera Jersey is available in five sizes from Small to XX-Large and in the Cyan Competitive Cyclist colorway. Please note: De Marchi relies heavily on European sizing, so please make your selection accordingly.

Very happy with this jersey

  • Familiarity:I've put it through the wringer

I rode in this jersey for hot summer rides. It is very airy and lightweight, wicks sweat well and a medium fits me (5'11" 150 lbs) very well. It's true that the fabric only has one weave, but this is meant to be a warm/hot weather jersey, so that's exactly what I wanted. Very happy with my purchase and DeMarchi generally (though have no experience with their bibs).

Not the Real Deal

  • Familiarity:I've put it through the wringer

This jersey looks good, and if you are a casual cyclist who is very fashion conscious as well as cheap then you might like it. But compares to my Assos shirts this is not even a bike jersey, it's a jersey-shaped object. The material does not wick sweat well, and the seams on the inside can abrade. It's a bit stretch and the cut is OK. I paid about $55 and I guess that it was OK for the price, but the short are not worth it (see my other review) and so I am returning both.

Most Comfortable Jersey I own

  • Familiarity:I've put it through the wringer

The material that De Marchi uses is exceptional. It is extremely soft and comfortable and wicks moisture very well. One of the other reviews labels the material as cheap. I don't spend more than $100 for a jersey, so I am not certain whether jerseys north of $100 have a better feel. However, for less than $100, I know of nothing better. The sizing may run a little small, but probably only half a size or so compared to most manufacturers (other than Louis Garneau, which I think runs at least a full size too large IMO).

Cheap fabric, runs small

  • Familiarity:I returned this product before using it

I have a variety of jerseys from cheap to moderately expensive, and this one definitely falls to the cheap end. A good jersey has a complex fabric that is soft and wicking on the inside, but stylish on the outer surface. The Leggera is simple, just a single, simple weave. It also has a race jersey fit, so it should stretch when you put it on. I found that it was still too tight and uncomfortable even though I used the sizing guide, so I mailed it back. Skip this jersey and buy a more expensive model.
