Should've listened to the reviews...

I'm just getting into cycling, and I really liked the look of these and the fact that they're meant to fit over bike shorts/liners. I don't know if the sizing from the manufacturer is just horribly inconsistent or what, but like some others have noted, these are HUGE. I'm 5'4" and about 125 lbs with a booty, and I could pull the size 28 shorts off and on without undoing the snap or zipper! Even pulling the velcro tabs all the way in didn't help much, and then it bunched at the back waistband like a diaper... not exactly the look I was going for. :/ The legs were also much wider than I expected, and I don't have skinny thighs. Back they go!

These don't actually run large... they are just made to fit a liner or chamois underneath. I typically don't wear one, but mine fit (and look great) with or without one. Probably worth mentioning, I wear these pretty low on my hips. Most of my other mtb shorts fit higher up.

Perfect summer shorts, as they have lots of room and are made of a light fabric. The blue is gorgeous, but shows all the dirt and will never come clean. But I guess if you're super worried about getting dirty, you should probably find a new hobby anyway ;-)

Thanks for the awesome review Tegan! Glad to hear you have been getting after that Utah Brown Pow, and adding some texture to the shorts :)

Like these shorts a lot, but the sizing is super funky! I'm 5'7'' 140lbs athletic build and the 26" were way too small but the 28" fit perfect. I prefer my MTB shorts a little baggier. The 28 felt like it was two sizes bigger than the 26. Wish they had a zippered pocket.

I own about 8 pair of these

I have these shorts in every color, and I have a couple doubles. They are pretty much the only mtb shorts I wear. I love them because they hit me right above the knee, they are lightweight, the waste is adjustable, and they dry super-duper quickly. They don't come with liners, but I have plenty of those. I always get compliments on the blue ceramic color, but I suggest not wearing that color on a muddy day.

I am 5'5", 122 lbs and wear the 26. I can wear this same size give or take 7 lbs. The sizing is odd...I am definitely not a 26 waist. It took me a few purchases to figure out my size. Note that these fit slightly different than the Dakine Tonic shorts, but I can still wear roughly the same size or smaller in those.

Not so stretchy.

So, the copy says these are a "four-way stretch knit" but the shorts feel more like a woven, the fabric is thin and light weight, but does not give. I purchased a 28 (my old pair is a 28) and they were just a bit too constricting for peddling so I returned them. They are a nice length for fitting over knee pads.

My fav MTB shorts!

I have two pairs of these shorts and love them for riding. The adjustable velcro waistband inside is great if they are a little big. Lightweight and super comfortable. If they come out with more colors, I will buy them all!

Best mountain bike shorts ever

  • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

These are hands down the best mountain bike over shorts ever. I feel that this seasons are true to size. Last season a little big....
ANYWAY, for reference, i am 5'4'. 122 pounds, 50 years old, and i bought the 28. They have a ton of velcro length on both sides, so it is easy to make them fit perfect, stay up, and still remain cool and loose around butt and thighs. I love that these are finally a brand and style with room for an athletes butt! These are amazing and i love them. Oh, and the pockets are deep and wonderful. Phone can be in there and i can ride for hours without a bother.

Not kidding about running large!

Holy crap!! I'm a 29/30 waist and I like my shit baggie but these are beyond. I saw they ran big so I stayed with a 30 thinking they would just be the perfect loose fit. Nope. Lol they are huge!!! I have to sinch the sides to even keep them up. Then I get the super bunch in the back of the shorts. I really have to pull them up because they are like Capri length on me. REALLY SAD about this for sure. Other than that though...... The material feels good. I like the stretch and pockets are nice. It would be better if they had closures on the pockets though. And belt loop would be helpful. . If dakine would just let me design them...

Not kidding about running large!

Good shorts

I'm 5'2", 110lbs, and bought the 28. I sized up so I could fit my armoured Demon shorts underneath. I find women's shorts to always be too fitted when putting my armour on. These are on the baggier side, which is what I was looking for. They do fit quite large though. They look terrible without my armour, major saggy ass, but when I have armour on they look okay. I wish these had a zippered pocket as well as belt loops as there is nowhere to hang a lift ticket.

I bought these in grape, and they're almost like a neon purple, so you're definitely going to be seen wearing them. All in all, they're pretty good, but I think they're missing some key features.

Sweet shorts!

  • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

I really like the length of these shorts. The only problem is that I the room in the thighs are tight (notice the "runs small" ranking), so if you have muscular legs, you may want to size up. That means the waist will be a bit big, but there is an adjustable waist. I really like how lightweight and breathable these are. I had the older version of these and ripped some holes in them. The button for the fly has been improved (the older version wouldn't stay closed after wearing them a ton). Love the purple!!

These are amazing!

I love the fit of these shorts! I had to get the smallest size offered, the 28. I am 5'4'', 128 lbs. They're a good length, and not very baggy at all, so you can still look girlish out there when riding with the boys. They're thin too which is awesome for the hot summer/warm fall days! I highly recommend these shorts, I've found nothing wrong with them!

too big!

  • Familiarity: I've used it several times
  • Fit: Runs large

The smallest size, 26 I think is more like a 30. I wear 27/28 and I can't keep them on even with the adjustable velcro around the waist band.

If you can get a pair that fit, they are cute. I got the magenta/purple. I like the color. The material is thin though, so it won't be a good bomber DH pair of shorts.

Good luck!

Comfortable & Fun

  • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

From trail rides to hike-a-bike excursions to city commutes, DH big-bike riding and beyond, I've put these shorts through the wringer and for the most part, I've been pretty delighted with what they've handled, including more than one sudden weather emergency.

I'm always a fan of extra storage and found these to be sparse, but haven't missed it as much as I normally would have due to the depth of the front-mounted pockets and comfort of the material. However, being blessed with thunder-thighs and a small waist, the shorts do fit VERY snugly through the thighs because of the streamlined cut, which requires empty pockets on long uphills or strenuous climbs where range of motion is crucial. The fit is flattering around town but not ideal for a pack-aholic like myself that likes to keep music going as much as possible.

Overall, I love the short; the color is particularly vibrant (I have them in grape), the quality construction of the seams and pockets is greatly appreciated, and the fit is fun to rock around. It's a great, versatile short and I'd recommend it to any of my gal pals looking for a solid short than can take some abuse.

versatile

  • Familiarity: I gave it as a gift but have feedback to share
  • Fit: True to size

Finally got some bike shorts for the lady. These fit great, a little lose around the hips to allow for a chamois and some flex while pedaling. The length is right at the knee. the material is super light and breathable. the pockets are deep, to carry a select item or two.

with the adjustable waist, these will be awesome to wear around when not on the trail.

Simple lightweight shorts for summer

These shorts are awesome! Super lightweight, no random zippered pockets or unneeded features. Plenty of room for my favorite cham underneath. I love the 13 inch long inseam- perfect coverage for all-mountain, downhill, and cross country riding. Comfortable low rise in the front, too. I'm 5'7", and a size 4 pants/shorts, and a size 26 in these Dakine shorts. (Size 24 fit great, but too tight when actually riding a bike).
