Item # DAK2230

Your old valve is starting to look like your puppy's chew toy, and with the way it leaks, it looks like you are trying to mark a trail so you can find your way back to camp. Switch out that old, nasty valve with the Dakine Replacement Bite Valve. Dakine revamped the design on this valve to prevent leaks and to give you quick, easy access to hydration.

  • Angled design means this valve meets your mouth without having to leave a few feet of hose dangling around
  • Over-sized construction is easy to use even if you're wearing gloves
  • On-off valve prevents leaks
  • FDA-approved polyurethane won't make your water taste like plastic

It's good as a spare only

  • Familiarity: I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions

I ran into the leaking issues on day 1. Low water volume when you want a quick sip. NOT ergonomical in the on/off switch. You need to stop your ride in order to re-open it. I took this valve off a 2014 dakine pack and put on my older camelbak valve. Camelbak has such a simple design which is why the valves last forever. You can't really clean this valve, because of its unnecessary structure. Look to something more simple and easy to clean instead of buying a new one of these when yours is moldy. I've used camelbaks since 98'. The camelbak valve fit my dakine tubing perfectly. I kept the valve only as a spare in pack in the low probability that my camelbak valve gets yanked off by a bush or tree.

Good Vs. Bad

  • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

The good thing about this piece is that it fits a lot of different packs, not just the Dakine ones, which is really helpful to know! It's also priced pretty well so can't complain there. I have had some major issues with leakage though, that's the main reason why I got this bite valve was to replace an old leaky one on my pack. But this too started leaking all too soon, like seriously within days. Hopefully Dakine will be able to come out with a better upgrade next year, because they really are a great company!

Poor design

This is the exact bite valve that came with my nathan hydration vest. Exactly this - which I unfortunately didn't know until I purchased this as a replacement for the valve that leaked when I bough my Nathan vest. Within two weeks of using it leaked like crazy and had to be left in the "off" position except when drinking. Even then it sucked in lots of air when drinking. It is made up of at least 4 different molded parts - way to complicated. What were the designers thinking? Even when it is not working it takes two hands to open and close the valve. Of course, if it didn't leak you could just leave it open. I replaced it with a camelbak valve. Save yourself some frustration - give this valve a pass.

Patrick! Which CamelBak valve fits your nathan vest tubing? This is exactly what I'm searching to do...the nathan valve is impossible to clean, and mine broke off, and was green! nathan sent me a replacement, but I want a simple mouthpiece. Had read CamelBak's tubing diameter is smaller than this not the case? Thanks for the help.

Lindsey, I just pulled a valve off an old camel back bladder I had and it works fine. Can't tell you what valve it is, but it is a really simple one - no on/off slider, just an old bite valve. Works great, fits fine. I too was worried about the fit but was able to get in on no problem.

easy replacement

  • Gender: Male
  • Familiarity: I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions

The valve on my Hydrapak kept leaking when opened. Ended up getting this valve, installed super easy and completely fixed the problem. Valve seemed to be able to fit a variety of different sized tubing as well.

Don't bother

My new Dakine Drafter came with this bite valve. 1) it can't be opened/closed one-handed (while riding) 2) it leaked from day one and 3) the hose is the same size, so you can just swap in a Camelbak bite valve. :D

This replacement is loads better than the old one supplied with my pack. It twists open and closed instead of having the fear of breaking your teeth to pull the old one open. Easy. Me likes.

Terrible design
It's really hard to switch between on and off. Really requires you to remove your gloves.
Water flow is adequate.

I replaced mine with a camelbak big bite valve and it flows more water and is more convenient to use on the mountain

For cleaner sipping

I do have the newer Dakine hydration bags in my pack, so this is perfect for replacing my dirt filled (ew) nipple i have on there currently. Sweet! Cleaner tasting water.

heads up

these valves do not fit the older style blue hose made by nalgene for dakine. if you need those, nalgene sells direct from their website.
