Get your buddies to pay for it.

Your buddies always make sure you drive to the trailhead—not because they enjoy your company, but because you have a truck. Unfortunately, your truck is taking a beating from all the bikes slung across the tailgate. The Dakine Pick-Up Pad is the best defense against chips and dings.

Resting on the tailgate of your truck, the Pick-Up Pad is constructed from heavy-duty nylon and .75-inch padding for a scratch-free tailgate. An access flap makes dropping the tailgate simple, while the three web cinch straps prevent the Pick-Up Pad from shifting during transport. Five hook-and-loop straps across the top of the pad keep the bikes in place. The final touch is the reflective Dakine logo across the back for a bit of style and safety.

The Dakine Pick-Up Pad comes in two sizes: Small (54 inches) and Large (62 inches) and is available in Black or Palapa.

Perfect For Your Truck

  • Familiarity: I've used it several times

This pad is great, I used to just have a towel and a door mat going over my tailgate that would just flap around and move. Luckily I picked this up and it rarely comes off my truck. I have a 05 Nissan Frontier, I got the size small and it fits perfect, I have enough room to use all the top straps if needed. Haven't had any issues with it coming loose, just make sure you're threading it correctly on the cinch.

The Small pad works for Toyota Tacoma, Ford Rangers, Etc. The large pad works for Ford F-150s, Dodge Rams, Chevy 1500s, Toyota Tundras, Etc. If you have questions give us a call or take a measurement of your tailgate for ideal fit.

Great but not perfect

  • Familiarity: I've used it several times

I have had this pick up pad for about 2 months now and I really like it. It holds lots of bikes very easily but has a few things I don't like. The straps tend to loosen up after a day of being installed and the straps are impossible for me to slide under the tailgate all by myself. I need someone to slide them from under the down tailgate to me, unless you have insanely long arms you can not do it alone. This is on a 2010 Sierra, other trucks with larger gaps between the tailgate and truck bed may be different.

why is this pad so much more expensive now...

why is this pad so much more expensive now ,ordered one a few months ago and paid considerably less 79.95 for the same item. Can't you sell me this one for the same price,i have bought a fair amount of stuff from you!

Best Answer Responded on

Pricing is dependent on cost, model year, and season. Ski gear is going to be more expensive in the fall/winter than it will be in the spring/summer, bike gear is going to be cheaper in the winter than the spring/summer. The previous pad may have been sale priced do to a closeout buy we may have gotten from DaKine. Please give our CS line a call, 801-736-6396 x4378 and we can see if any accommodations can be made.

A Gift that Keep on Giving

  • Familiarity: I gave it as a gift

I bought this for my Brother in-law for his B-day who was always trying to get me to drive b/c I had a bike rack now that he has this I'm not driving anymore, he has a Dodge Ram 2500 and I bought him the Large and it fits great on the back it's the perfect solution for those who don't have a shell and those who don't want to lay their bikes on each other in the bed of the truck this item works awesome for what it's used for

Couldn't be a better picture. I was just wondering how it would fit on my Tacoma. Thanks man.

I have a tacoma also and was wondering how it'd work! what size is that pad?

Responded on

I have a 98 Tacoma and I bought the Large as a gift for my bro in-law who has a burly dodge and I didn't put it on my truck but I thought it would be to large if I did the large is super wide and I feel as though it would extend past the tail gate

Responded on

Small is the size you want for a first gen Tacoma (1995?2004). You'll want a large for anything 2005 or newer. It will cover the entire tailgate. (You can see how there's still some tailgate showing in Andrew's photo.)

Responded on

Hope this helps: Large fits best on full-size trucks. F-250 and the ilk. Anything smaller, and you want the small, which is the one pictured on the Tacoma.

If you have a truck and ride a bike..

...then you probably want this, or already have it. Face it: the pile of blankets/carpet/pads you have on there now is doing neither your bike or your tailgate any favors. This pad is the real deal, and a quantifiable upgrade over the McGuyver solution.

  • Familiarity: I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions

Small size is 54" wide
Large is 62" wide

Holds Bikes

This pad is a great alternative to the traditional bike rack. It is much simpler and holds bikes just as well. Installation is a breeze and its hold on the bike is very secure.
