I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions
Have had camelbaks since the beginning, specially the last 3 MULE models. This Dakine pack beats camel bak in all the aspects except for the bladder. The bladder from camel bak still have a lead over the other brands, but Dakine Drafter pack is way better, more comfortable, full of details, than camel bak MULE. Perfect!
Had my Drafter for about 3 seasons now and still looks like new! This pack is the perfect size for everyday trail riding & day hiking.
Typical contents include: Extra tube/s, pump, first aid, tire levers, plenty of trail treats, head lamp, wind/rain jacket, multi tool, monocular (just in case of awesome wildlife sighting) and still room to spare for sure. 3L bladder is great for the longer rides and the quick disconnect on the hose makes it really easy to remove for fill and drying.
Wasn't too sure if the removable waist belt was going to be useful at first, but use this feature often when not using the pack on the trail. When traveling it is nice not to have the waist belt hanging around and to just get it out of the way.
I have previously been using the Nomad pack by Dakine but felt it was a touch too big for the day to day rides, this pack is certainly a happy medium. Enjoy the ride!
Used this for a few days in Moab. Holds enough that you can go out for a long time. It has a ton of zippered pouches inside, a dry pouch, and room for a light sweatshirt, sunscreen and a hat. I did not have any plastic taste like others. Even the first use, I only did a quick rinse, and I was ready to go. Would buy another.
I would like to start by saying that this is a great hydration pack. Very good quality BUT... I got it in the mail and it was disappointing to see the mine has a different back side then my wife's or other pictures. Instead of the vented classic back it has some sort of a mesh and the back of the pack is curved. This is totally different then in the clip they have in the review section or all the pictures found online. Since i do not want to pay return shipping... i will keep it but i was not expecting this new design...MAYBE IS WORTH MENTIONING GUYS !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I think is for better cooling but it sucks because, even if the pack is empty it looks like is full. I will post pictures of the new design and also comparison to the classic back. Both packs have THE SAME LOAD IN THEM.Hope you can see that one is nice and slim the other sticks out allot more....GREAT!!!!!!:(( I think you guys should tell customers that THERE IS MORE THEN ONE BACK DESIGN!!! Since this is the review for the pack i will give it 5 stars but i will give competitive cyclist NOT 5 stars!!!!
The pack is perfect for the shuttle days with boys and don't want to get stranded. I keep a multi tool, tube, light food and few other thing in the bag and all fits without issue. I am never able to drink all the water i fill in the pack....maybe i don't ride hard enough..ha!
I've used the pack on singletrack, fire road and bike park for quite a few days now. It's held everything I've needed to carry (tools, food, extra layers, helmet, armour) and the weight distribution has been great. You can strap all the external gear (armour and helmet) down firmly so it doesn't get in the way on the pedal up. The organisational pockets are a god-send, and much better than my previous Nalgene pack. The slim, bike-tailored fit is very nice for ventilation. The hydration pack is good, but it would be nice if the valve was a bit simpler to open. It's impossible to do one-handed while riding on singletrack, and the bladder has tasted a bit like chemicals a couple of times. Hopefully this will dissipate with time though.
This is an extremely well built pack. Hydration system works great, no funny taste like some. Plenty of storage for all needed tools / food for a day trip. Helmet holder is very convenient too. The best feature of this pack is the quality! This is built to last!
got this and love it and use it all the time. Great for commuting and for mnt biking and boarding. A little tight in space at times but the exterior storage helps with things like carrying half gallons of juice from the store. Also wish that the back had a bit of a curve to help retain shape like some of the osprey packs have
I picked up this pack for when I go out on longer rides, and for when I vacation in Moab, UT later this year. I chose this pack because I have been so impressed with my smaller Dakine Session pack that I picked up a couple years ago. Quality, function, and form are all top notch! The whistle on the chest buckle is a nice feature. My dog loves it, as it gets her attention instantly. Could be really handy when I'm out hiking with her. I will be posting a picture soon to show the interior details of the pack.
Great small to midsize hydration back with room for the essentials just like the description says. This pack (like most/all Dakine packs) uses a Hydrapak reservoir with a quick disconnect at the bottom so you do not have to unthread the drinking tube to fill up the reservoir. When filled up to its 100oz capacity, there was still enough room for a shell jacket (Alpha LT in XL), a multitool, cell phone, keys, and some snacks. I haven't tried out the helmet carry, but it looks like it will work as advertised. The shoulder straps are comfortable and the waist belt keeps it from bouncing around too much when it gets rough.
