DAKINE Drafter Pack - 700cu in $0.00
Take only what you need to survive.
Odds are decent you won't need a ton of extra layers when you're spending the day pounding Moab singletrack, but you will need to stay hydrated under that raging sun, which is the name of the Dakine Drafter Pack's game. It has room for a windbreaker, but its bread and butter is the three-liter Shape-Loc hydration reservoir, which holds enough juice to keep your gullet moistened during long summer rides. It also boasts an absurd number of pockets, from a padded phone pocket to a fleece-lined sunglasses pocket to a pump sleeve to three more internal organizers, which can hold tubes, snacks, sunscreen, hex keys, a map, and then some. There's also a carrying system on the back for a full-face or XC helmet, and a rescue whistle on the sternum strap if you end up miles from anywhere and need to signal a friendly rescue lizard.
- 630D nylon and 1260D ballistic nylon
- Air Mesh suspended back panel
- 3L Shape-Loc hydration reservoir
- Sternum strap with safety whistle
- Full-face/XC helmet carry system
- Three mesh internal organizer pockets and pump sleeve
- Fleece-lined padded phone pocket

Very happy with pack
Very Happy W/ Pack
- Familiarity: I've used it several times
The drafter is hands down a very comfortable pack for it's size. I originally purchased the 1100cu in Amp by Dakine. When I received it, it was too big. I previously had a camelbak rogue for 10 years which was very very limited in the volume dept. The drafter is your go to pack that holds 3 L of water for a good 4-5 hour ride w/o any water bottles. The nice thing about the air mesh on your back is that it keeps your back cool and the water too. It can easily hold food, many tools, airpump, 2 tubes miscellaneous things, phone, ipod, car keys, inhaler (if you have asthama), and keeps all of those things secure. I rarely use the helmet pouch, but it does keep mine secured. It's also a good option for more warmers and such. My only complaint is the bite valve. If you're used to a camelbak, than it's hard to settle w/ this one. I simply swapped this bite valve out for my existing camelbak bite valve and it fit perfectly w/ no issues or stress. I actually prefer the bladder more than camelbaks. It's super easy to clean and to top off with water. The pack has great value for what you pay for. Good quality fabric and zippers. Never had a pack w/ a hip strap, but really don't notice it unless a bee gets stuck between it and your hip (yes, I was stung or bite 3 times lol). Oh I forgot to mention you can manage 3 beer cans or 2 bottles pretty comfortably on top of all your normal things. That is if you live the high life ;)
I've read in some reviews of this pack...
I've read in some reviews of this pack that the bit valve doesn't allow as much water to flow as the camelbak valves do. I'm wondering if anyone has had an issue with the valve that the pack comes with or if anyone knows if you can use a camelbak bladder in this pack.
You can use any bladder with it. 2L fits best. I did replace the valve with the camelbak set up.
The hydropak bladder (3L) that comes with this bag is a wonderful bladder. I think it's the best on the market. I love the fact that you can turn it inside-out to clean it. As far as the bite valve, I have not had a problem with the stock one, but it sounds like you can take the stock one off and mount the Camelback on easy enough.
Very pleased with this pack.
I chose the Hood color, it looks great IMO! I really like how it feels on my back with the air mesh suspended back panel. Well thought out design with good storage.
- Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer
I got this pack for everyday riding and so far it's done its job and more! 3L hydration pack is perfect for about a 20 miles ride or less and with the suspended back panel it keeps the weight of your back and the sweat of the pack. I pack just the essentials when using this bag and it seems to work out just perfect!
