Versatile trail work pack

Familiarity:
I've put it through the wringer

Our trail crew uses these packs for carry TrailBoss tools/buckets/and other tools to remote sites for trail building and maintenance. We have 10 of them. Great for carrying a heavy load on a bike, but not so much for hiking. Very durable, I’ve beaten the crap out of mine and it washes up like new. Lots of pockets, pretty well thought out. As other reviewers have said it’s okay for smaller chain saws, but not so much for larger saws. And carrying a saw makes using the nice pockets on the pouch awkward as they are bent around the saw. We use the Evoc trail builder pack for sawyer work. The new 25 liter version of this pack works great for other power tools (particularly the Stihl Kombi’s for clearing brush), but it’s hard to get all of the PPE and other gear you need for chain saw work into it, and just doesn’t carry as much as this 40 liter version. If you can only have one pack for all of your trail work, this is the one.

Not for a 50cc saw

Familiarity:
I've put it through the wringer

This pack would be awesome if the chainsaw pocket was just a little bigger. I mainly like to build wood features and and cut blown down trees up to 30” diameter, so me a 50cc saw is what I normally carry to do trail work. I carry a Stihl ms261 with an 18” bar. It fits, but not well. The pocket is just a little too small to fit the saw all the way down, so it rides a little high and off center. It’s uncomfortable on long excursions. If I’m just carrying a little top handle or my cordless saw they fit fine. Also on the days I need to carry a big saw (ms462 with a 28” bar) I take the bar off and slip the saw/bar into the main compartment. It obviously takes up all room for other tools, so I need someone else to carry those. My only other complaint would be how long handled tools (shovels, Pulaskis, etc...) flop around while carrying. The straps provided just don’t quite cinch down good enough, but that’s minor usually. Other than that this is a great pack. It’s comfortable carrying heavy loads of 60+Lbs. it’s made of tough materials, and has a great selection of pockets.

Perfect pack

Familiarity:
I've used it several times

I can carry everything I need to do trail work or cut trees. I carry a 16 in chainsaw with fuel and oil no problem. Has plenty of room for extra tools if and when needed.
