CycleOps Virtual Training $0.00
Ride your favorite route without leaving the house.
You keep telling yourself that you can't do it anymore. The last time you locked your bike into the trainer, put in your ear buds, turned the fan on high, and grabbed a stack of towels you told yourself this was the last time you'd ride indoors. We've all been there. It usually comes after we've been battling the inevitable hamster-on-the-wheel syndrome for several months, and we need to escape the monotony that comes with spinning inside. Well, the good news is that things are starting to look up for those of us who fall victim to the trainer. With CycleOps' new Virtual Training software, the act of riding inside becomes more than just tolerable, it's actually enjoyable.
CycleOps set out to replicate your outdoor riding conditions as accurately as possible with its Virtual Training. By pairing the software with your CycleOps 400 Pro Indoor Cycle, PowerBeam, PowerTap, and other ANT+ powermeters, you have a multitude of options to keep your training on target.
The software works by allowing you to create your own courses using a combination of video, GPS files, and Google Maps. Now you can strap a video camera to your bike, go outside and ride your favorite loop, and then upload the content to your computer. Download the GPS file from your Joule unit from that same ride, and the Virtual Training software easily merges the two files to create a fully simulated course for you to replicate in the comfort of your home.
When the course displays on your TV or computer screen, it's split into several easy to follow sections. On your main screen you watch the video file as you ride, with a smaller 'bird's eye' Google Maps screen off in the corner. You have the option to flip these two in order to create a simulated visual that best suits your personal preference. If you choose to import the GPS file without the video, you ride solely to the Google Maps' overhead view. In either preference setting you'll see a column of simple metrics down the side that include: ride time, speed, distance, km/miles to finish, slope, and power output. You also have the ability to display your course's profile along the bottom of the screen for additional visual feedback. As you ride, the software adjusts the load generation of the resistance unit in order to reflect the actual changes in terrain along the route.
With CycleOps' Virtual Training you're able to take these created courses and upload them to the internet, where you'll be able to share courses with other cyclists from around the world. Similarly, you're also able to download courses that other riders have uploaded, meaning that you'll have endless possibilities of ride routes to hold you over until the weather breaks.
The CycleOps Virtual Training is available for CycleOps 400 Pro Indoor Cycle, PowerBeam, PowerTap, and other ANT+ powermeters. Please refer to CycleOps' website for minimal computer configurations required for running the software program.
