If you've ever been curious about training with power, there's no better way to jump in than with the CycleOps PowerTap G3/Zipp 101 Clincher Powermeter System. Sold as just a rear wheel or with two CPU options, this Powermeter system comes with Zipp's patented, aerodynamic 101 alloy rim, and CycleOps' most innovative PowerTap hub, the G3. Training on a budget shouldn't equate to low-quality. The G3/Zipp 101 Powermeter System gives you caviar on a burrito budget.

CycleOps completely overhauled the design of previous PowerTap models, improving aspects ranging from rigidity to functionality. An 80-gram weight reduction from the popular SL+ makes the PowerTap G3 Rear Hub the lightest power meter in the world. CycleOps improved on the rigidity of previous models by shrinking the hub profile and widening the flanges. With the distractions of weight and stealth design out of the way, CycleOps improved the functionality and accuracy of data gathering. For one, CycleOps moved the orientation of the electronics that transmit user data to the end cap of the freehub body, making it possible to remove the electronics for service without swapping out the entire wheel. This means more time in the saddle and fewer headaches.

The new G3 is equipped with an ANT+ wireless transmitter that sends power, torque, speed, and virtual cadence data to CycleOps' Joule computer or any other unit that translates ANT+. Please note that the G3 is not compatible with Yellow CPUs. The G3 is capable of storing up to 15 hours of data in one-second intervals, and up to 30 hours of data in two-second intervals. The G3 design still has a 'torque tube' with eight strain gauges, yielding measurements accurate within +/- 1.5% between 40 and 130 rpm.

Zipp's foray into aluminum clinchers resulted in a patented aerodynamic design that, compared to their closest aluminum competition, shaves up to 42 seconds over 40 kilometers. With first impressions like this, we're ready to let the Zipp 101 marry our daughter and take the keys to the sports car. The Zipp 101 shares many of the characteristics seen in Zipp's carbon series of race wheels. The 101 features a tunnel-tested, fully toroidal rim shape as well as many of the Firecrest's wider-is-better design features. Like the Firecrest, the 101 pays mitigates the degradation of airflow due to tire bulge at the rim. The solution is quite similar; a wider 24.5mm rim design that decreases drag while increasing lateral stiffness. The wide 101 design also decreases the occurrence of pinch flats, an optimal characteristic for any trainer wheelset. Ultimately, the Zipp 101 is the fastest aluminum wheel on the planet, and the preferred training rim for pros across the world.

We're offering a choice of two different on-board computers to process the stream of data from the G3 hub. The Garmin Edge 800 is the pinnacle of Garmin CPU technology. It's rugged and waterproof, and fully capable of handling road vibration and unexpected potholes. It comes with an aerodynamic low-profile mount that allows easy quarter-turn removal for when you want to sync up with Garmin Connect using a USB cable. The Edge 800 has full GPS capabilities with built-in Basemap technology for major roads and cities. Using BaseCamp software, you can create your own routes and view elevations from your home computer to upload to your Edge. Using Garmin Connect, the Edge 800 allows you to follow courses from other cyclists in your area and race them. Other key features to the Edge 800 include a barometric altimeter for exact climb, descent, and temperature data. You also get Virtual Partner, a function that provides a digital race partner against your real-time speeds and your goal speeds during a ride. The Edge 800 uses a full touch screen, and utilizes HotFix satellite prediction technology to calculate your position faster than any other CPU. It has an expected battery usage of 15 hours.

TheGarmin Edge 500 is a sleek GPS cycling computer that's just as rugged as it is functional. Like the 800, it can take a hit and is waterproofed to IPX7 standards. The Edge 500 provides all of the pertinent information you need during a ride like distance, speed, location, climb and descent, and calories burned. All data is recorded for you to review with Garmin Connect.

The CycleOps PowerTap G3/Zipp 101 Clincher Powermeter System is hand-built in the USA. This system includes a rear wheel only, and is available to fit Campagnolo or Shimano/SRAM cassettes. Please note that Zipp's maximum recommended rider weight is 250lbs.
