The price, reliability, and functionality of the CycleOps Cervo 2.4 CPU is hard to beat. Uploading into PowerTap's PowerAgent, CyclingPeaks, or any number of electronic diaries makes studying ride performance easy. And it's a wireless computer, recording speed, cadence, heart rate, and it has the ability to record intervals. It can record for up to 14 hours at the one-second sampling rate. For many, this is data enough.

And for those who want to someday upgrade to using power, whether borrowing a wheel with a PowerTap hub or using a Quarq crank based powermeter, the computer has a "learn" mode so that it can figure out what to do and start recording power at that point. All that's needed is a ANT+ wireless compatible powermeter. Upgrading to power is that simple.

While intuition might be the best training tool, having rides recorded can help develop an overall picture of one's training. Upload every ride and it's hard to fake easy weeks and easy to know when you've gone too hard for too long. The Cervo can also get its marching orders from the computer -- downloading settings is simple.

The CycleOps 2.4 Coded Heart Rate Strap Transmitter is made for use with any wireless PowerTap system, regardless of the model. This transmitter is one size only, and it comes with an adjustable elastic band to keep it in place on your chest.

The CycleOps Cervo 2.4 Electro Pack comes with the CPU, heart rate strap, handlebar/stem mount, zip ties, software CD (works with Mac and PC), and upload cradle. It's everything you need to gather serious on-the-bike data. And if you're interested in someday riding with a powermeter, you'll be ready for that too. The CPU features are: Speed (current, average, and max), heart rate (current and average), ride distance (miles or km), ride time, programmable odometer, interval mode with on-bike recall, real-time cadence.
