Crank Brothers Mallet 1 Pedal $0.00
So-called all-mountain bikes come with their own set of requirements, and one of those is the need for a pedal that offers the efficiency and all-day comfort of a clipless pedal combined with the sphincter-relaxing confidence of a burly platform. The Crank Brothers Mallet 1 Pedal keeps a foot comfortably on both sides of the fence and makes a great commuting pedal as well.
- Cro-Moly spindle is ready for the roughest terrain you can find
- Replaceable traction pins keep your feet in place, even when you're not clipped in
- Four-sided pedal entry takes the guesswork out of clipping in

- Familiarity: I gave it as a gift but have feedback to share
I bought these for my wife so she can ride with flats and ease into clipless pedals in time. So far mostly flats, but nice to have the option. Solid construction and nice platform
great multi use pedal
- Familiarity: I've used it several times
After using shimano pedals for a long time I got talked into trying the Mallet out and am loving them. They seem easier to get in and out of, offer a more stable platform for when you're not clipping in, and if you do get whacked in the shin, they aren't slicing you up. I wouldn't want to use them as a platform pedal for any serious downhilling since they don't have any studs to keep you from slipping off but for running errands or any relaxed riding they're perfect.

can these be used comfortably with ordinary shoes for short rides?
Yes, they give you that extra platform on these pedals so that you don't have to clip in to use these. These are great for when you want to spend the day riding downhill or if you are in a section of town that has a lot of stop signs.
I used to use an egg beater style clip that had less of a shell as this one and I had a lot of moments when I did not have my clip shoes and just rode without them and it was perfectly fine. So these having more of a shell I can imagine that with these guys you would hardly notice that they are clips under the shell.

Have had them on my fixed gear commuting bike for 2 years now, have to say they are pretty awesome. Easiest pedals to clip in yet for me. Durable, and I can ride them without my mtb shoes as well. For 59$ look no further, they are 100% better that the spd alternatives and cheaper than the time, (loved my old time atacs) but they were expensive.
