Clip and go.

Crankbrothers' Eggbeater pedals put a new twist on "clip and go" for mountain bikes. The Eggbeater 3 Stainless Steel Pedals’ easy-to-use system means fewer missed clips and an open design that sheds mud so that you’ll always have pedal power.

The SL still uses tried-and-true stainless steel for the body and the wings of the pedals. The Eggbeaters are easy to use thanks to their nearly foolproof four-sided design that allows your shoe to clip the minute it hits the wing with a slight forward or backward rotation. And, while they are machined to high tolerances, more importantly, they won’t rust, chip, or peel. The new SL spindle is chromoly steel with no rider weight limit. Needle and cartridge bearings are used in place of older bushings, and they are as easy to service as any pair of Eggbeater pedals. The cleat itself is a small brass two-hole piece that recesses into the tread of your shoes. This makes for easy, worry-free walking across any surface. They also allow for either a 15- or 20-degree release angle.

  • Stainless Steel body and wings
  • Cartridge outer bearing, needle inner
  • Brass cleat with 15 or 20 degrees of release
  • Aluminum body, stainless steel spring
  • Forged chromoly spindle

Crank Brothers Bling

I'm used to the Crank Brothers Candy for mountain biking so I bought these for my road bike. I was surprised how heavy they were with less material than the Candy. I like how they look minimal and the connection works well on the upstroke, but I could use a little more platform for mashing the downstroke. I would invest in extra cleats seeing how Crank Bros cleats tend to wear out fairly quickly.

I started several years ago with and entry level eggbeater and beat them too hell. they took it all and all my bikes road, gravel and mountain bike sport these pedals .

Egg Beater Pedals

  • Familiarity: I've used it several times

Great Pedals, never get clot up with mud, very easy and fast to clip on (4 ways to clip).

Strongly recommend it

Best pedals ever!

I used Shimano SPD, but when I have to walk through the mud, and go back to the bike always is a mess, but with this guys it never happens, also you don't have to look for the proper position, you just ride!!

I converted

I having been running shimano SPDs for a few years now, but all my buddies somehow all rocked eggbeaters, naturally I eventually caved and bought these. I went with the 3s because you put a lot of trust in your pedals, so spend the extra money, (maybe not TI money though except for steez). However, after riding and racing with these, I do like how easy these are too clean as my spds would occasionally get to cake with dirt and mud. They are easy to get in and out of and have a good amount of float, so I guess my friends were right.

Will the crank brothers cleat fit on a road shoe also?

Best Answer Responded on

The cleats provided fit only shoes that have 2-hole SPD cleats.
Most road shoes have a 3-hole Look style cleat, but some support both 2 and 3 hole cleats.

That being said Crank Brothers sell a cleat for road shoes, I have used it and it works good, but if you plan on using your bike for road use with road use you are probably best off with a different pedal.

I put these pedals on my road bike and they work great. I got the conversion cleats from Crank bros. I like that I can wear either my Mt bike shoe or road shoe for the same bike without having to mess with changing the cleat

I have Egg Beaters on my commuter bike. The small cleat is recessed below the lugs on MTB style shoes so they are easy to walk in. The pedals are really durable and require little maintenance. Highly recommend!

Egg Beater 3 Pedals

My experience may be much different than yours. Most people love these pedals. I purchased these for a Bacchetta Corsa recumbent bike. Because it is a little difficult for a newbie to get started and clip in on a recumbent (especially uphill), a four-sided pedal can be a big advantage. A lot of recumbent riders use them. The Egg Beater 3s work fine, but I don't think I clip in any faster than I did with my Ultegra SPD-SL pedals. Part of the problem may be a modification of my right shoe to account for a leg length discrepancy. My cleat is on a 3/8" platform made from hard rubber, which sort of guided in the SPD-SL pedal, but does not aid in guiding in the EB cleat. I end up fishing around to clip in. I also use the road cleat adapters.
As for pedaling, I don't feel any hot spots. They are comfortable with my Sidi Genius 5 Pro shoes. I have never accidentally unclipped. The pricing was great and delivery very prompt.
