Make omelets or tracks in the dirt.

Sure, you could make omelets in the morning with the Crank Brothers Egg Beater Pedal, but wouldn't you rather go slay some muddy singletrack? Thanks to its infamous open-body design, the Egg Beater 1 Pedal sheds mud so well you won't ever have to worry about not being able to clip-in, no matter how sloppy things get. Adjustable release angle (from 15 to 20 deg) means no premature-ejection when bunny-hopping a downed-log, and a forged Cro-moly spindle ensures the Egg Beater 1 Pedal stands up to several seasons of use and abuse.

  • Cartridge bearing seals out dirt and keeps the Egg Beaters spinning-smooth
  • Stamped steel body and wings keep durability top-notch
  • Stainless steel 300 Series spring keeps cleat-retention high and consistent
  • Premium brass race cleats included

Too small :/

  • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

I know a lot of people love these, but they are not for me. I find them frustrating that I can't pedal my bike around the parking lot without my cleats on. Getting into the pedal was very difficult at first, and even after the break in period I still struggle to get into them on a steep downhill with my suspension open. My shimano XT pedals are infinitely easier to get into--i'll be switching back, despite the weight savings of these light little egg beaters.

easy like Sunday morning

  • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

They take a little practice to get the muscle memory to get in and out of, but once you get that done, theyre super easy to use. Shed mud really well and never get clogged. Been running them since they came out, and have no issue with them other than having to replace the cleats from time to time.

Have you been using them correctly?

  • Familiarity: I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions

I've heard mixed reviews of the Egg Beaters. I think that they are beginner friendly pedals and easy to use. However, I wouldn't expect them to last very long. I have friends who have had to replace the bearings multiple times in a short about of time. A friend of mine informed me that Crank Brothers sells a shim that you can put on the bottom of your shoe to lift up the cleat so that it has more contact with the pedal. I have not tried the lift, so I cannot say that it works, but it does make sense.

ehhh... don't waste your money

I hated these pedals. could never get in them and the platform is real small. Go spend your money on Shimano XT.

Simple enough!!!

  • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

These pedals provide the simplest form available for any MTB pedal. Simple to use, to clean, to maintain and very simple elegant design. Weight less than the Eggbeaters 2. Very, very durable and dependable. I love it!

OK for intended use.

Classic Cheap solid pedal. Used for commuting. Rusted pretty fast.
Get the stainless for longevity.

Great option for those new to clipless

This was my first clipless pedal, I still ride it, as advised by fellow riders and my LBS. Very rarely do you find a part thats both light, cheap, and works as expected. I will upgrade to a higher model eggbeater for my next set.
