Crank Brothers Candy 1 Pedal $59.95
Candy is dandy.
The Crank Brothers Candy 1 Pedal uses its composite body and stamped steel wings to add surface area to the pedal body, which gives you more pedal power. Crank Brothers Pedals are known as some of the lightest in the industry, and the Candy 1 keeps the dream alive with a minimal weight of 262g per pair.

Great beginner clipless pedals!
- Gender: Female
- Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer
I was a little hesitant about using clipless pedals at first but my friends encouraged me saying it was a whole different experience. Boy, am I glad I listened to them! If you are thinking about crossing over from platform to clipless try the Crank Brothers Candy 1 Pedal. This pedal is easy to adjust and synced perfectly with my Pearl Izumi shoes. The one piece composite body, small outside plastic, feels slightly like the good old platform pedals but suddenly you switch over from struggling at the back of the pack to zipping down a hill in the lead. I gained total balance with my bike and was suddenly more confident about taking the path less traveled, after a rainy night. Go for it!
Sweeter than... candy?
I bought these pedals to go with the Sidi Sierra shoes. I wouldn't recommend these pedals for that setup. The fit was very weird. I'm not real experienced with the clipless setup, but I would definitely go with the eggbeaters instead if I were to do it again. The plastic just seemed to get in the way.
I can see, however, that these pedals might be good if you were doing more of an enduro type of race.
Awesome for a first clipless set.
I actually think the value of this pedal is pretty great. Bought the Candy 1's a couple seasons ago when I got back on the bike after a pretty bad accident. Having been hit by a car and not really feeling very comfortable on a bike at all let alone clipped in, I went for the cheap version in case I decided clipping in wasn't for me. I wasn't a bit disappointed. I have since upgraded to EB3's, but the Candy's still work great and I have them on a knockaround rig that I ride around town. To be honest, it's difficult to tell the difference sometimes. A seasoned rider that plans on riding trail exclusively probably wants one of the higher end models, but this is a great beginner pedal.
Candy 1...not Candy!
Purchased these for their lightweight, if you are buying to save weight, choose something else. Maybe a good "starter"clipless pedal for rails-to-trails riding, but for any significant trail riding these do not hold up well at all. There are no bearings in these pedals only a cheap bushing. Got less than six-months life out of a set and had a pedal come completely apart during a ride. The only thing left attached to the crankarm was the pedal spindle...upon closer inspection these are cheaply made and even at a bargain price they are too expensive. These are not worth more than 25-bucks a pair based on the components they are put together with. Not recommended.....
Good enough pedal to get you started if you're not too sure about sticking with clipless. Go with the candy 3's for better bearings and smother pedaling if you think you'll make the switch from platforms.
