Get to the bottom first to keep your crown.

The Continental Trail King has answered the call for a year-round, all-condition, super grippy tire. Widely spaced knobs give you lots of traction, and Continental's Pure Grip compound is super tacky, even when the trails aren't.

  • Reinforced sidewall protects against rock razors
  • Oversized casing offers a larger, more stable footprint than other tires of comparable sizes
  • Apex sidewall treatment helps protect against pinch flats, so the Trail Kings can be run at lower pressures (2.4in version only)
  • Note: not tubeless compatible

Great tire

  • Familiarity: I've used it several times

I'm not looking to set this tire up as tubeless, so my review is on how the tire works. After several rides now the tire is one of my favorite tires out there. It grips really well, well enough that I run out of leg before I loose grip. The back tire rotates in reverse from the front, but if you want better rolling have it roll the same as the front. You will not loose much grip because of this but it will not be as good as the normal way it should be setup. It will make it a little better for x-country rides though. Just remember that Conti has a real problem with sidewalls so keep an eye on what your tires are hitting and you should enjoy these tires for a long time.

stoked

Bought these for my girlfriends bike and have been able to take her out a few times since. She seems to have a lot more tracking than normal. We are both very happy with this set-up

NOT A TUBELESS TIRE

These are not meant to be set up tubeless. People have set them up tubeless with some success, but they were not manufactured to be set up as tubeless.

guidance for those w/ sealing problems

  • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

Continental uses a very greasy mold release compound which stays on the inside of the tires, and it greatly inhibits the ability of Stans sealant to seal. The solution is to scrub the inside of the tire, ideally with a natural bristle brush, and a small amount (half scoop) of sealant. This will remove enough of the mold release so that Stans can adhere. This worked for me on other Conti tires that also exhibited massive air bleed thru the sidewalls.
Also, as others have noted, there are multiple models of these tires. Only the "Protection" models are tubeless ready and Black Chili. These tires have an inferior rubber compound, but they SHOULD mount tubeless w/ some effort.
If CC has made an error here, its in the supposed msrp of these tires. $60 is bogus, and arguably implies these are the better version. But the description doesn't say Black Chili or tubeless ready, so at least they got that part right.

Awesome

  • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

Running mine with Stan's both front and rear with NO issue what-so-ever. There were about 20 pinprick holes in the sidewall but Stan's filled them up with no issue at all. Others that have reviewed must not know how to install Stan's? Also, technically these are not Tubeless rated...so don't blame the tire or CC.

Other than that the tread on these are amazing and by far the best tire I have ever run. I highly recommend them.

Bad Purchase...

  • Familiarity: I returned this product before using it

I cant believe that competitive is selling this product, supposed to be tubeless its not there's thousand of small pin holes in the side wall which stans will never fill. Someone at competitive needs to step up to the plate & do something about, no wonder there's 558 in stock you can add 1 more to that.

Do NOT buy these tires!

  • Familiarity: I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions

These tires are not the ones from Germany but come from India. The sidewalls on these leak air through hundreds of small pinholes. When you try to seal them the Stans pours out of them and they are not useable. Since I did not use them when I first bought them they are now not returnable. $100 wasted. This is an incredibly horrible product and I cannot believe you guys are selling them.

Best Answer Responded on

I run them tubeless although they are not UST, on my 3rd pair, work great!

Brought 3 tires, the side wall on one of the tires had ~20 pin size holes that took awhile to seal with Stan's. Decided not to use that tire, going to try to get CC to exchange it for another new tire.

Responded on

Tried installing one last night-first pre-inflation to get a seal on the rim. Air gushed out of the sidewalls themselves. Put Two scoops of Stans in and re-inflated and the Stans poured out through about 100 small pinhole leaks. Impossible to seal and do not trust them. They are not made in Germany but India and look to be a cheap knock-off. Backcountry and SteepandCheap should not sell these.

I bought a few more of these since they were great tires.
WRONG, this batch had numerous small holes on the sides that would not seal with Stans.
Horrible purchase, great bait and switch competitive....

Responded on

Yes, I run this tire on the rear of my hard tail and it works just great with a tube. Fast rolling and grippy.
