Race Light Tube

If you're like us, you find comfort on the middle path; far away from the polarities of the cycling world. To us, lightweight clinchers epitomize this ideology, and we applaud your choice of race wheels that can double as a training set. Your tubes should reflect this duality by providing both durable, puncture-resistance and a weight-savings that you can feel on race-day. Easier said than done. However, the Continental Race Light Tube meets both criteria. By strategically shaving 19g off of the Race Tube, the Race Light Tube will keep your rotational weight down without sacrificing the ability to defy the attacks of debris.

The Continental Race Light Tube is available in a 700c x 18-25mm size with the option of either a 42, 60, or 80mm Presta valve.

Defective out of the box

Familiarity:
I've used it several times
Size Bought:
700/28c
Height:

Weight:

I bought six of these. At least three were defective. Two had a slit along the seam and wouldn't hold air. The other had a small hole in it. Cause quite a hassle on the group ride having, having two tubes fail and having to bum a tube. I'm disappointed because I've used these tubes before and they worked fine and they are light. Maybe I got a bad batch. But I'm checking on my tubes from here on out.

Great Tubes, Been Using Them For Years

Familiarity:
I've put it through the wringer

I’ve always had good luck with theses tubes. They’re significantly lighter than the standard Conti Race tubes, and I’ve found them to be durable and to hold air well. I’ve never had one with any defects, and they’re about 40 grams lighter than the standard Conti tubes. Yes, they can flat, like any tube, but I don’t get many flats and I’ve been riding these for years. They’re also smaller and easier to pack as spares, saving room and weight in my saddle bag. I’ve used these along with Conti 4000 / 5000 series clinchers, the combination provides a very supple and responsive ride. One review complained about these tearing or pinching when doing a roadside tube change, I’ve never had that issue, but then mounting Conti clinchers on my Campy Zoned C17 rims is fairly easy, some rims and tires just don’t play well together. I’m also currently riding 700x28 GP 5000 tires, which are nominally outside the size range of these tubes, but I haven’t noticed any difference in performance for the tubes.

Unforgiving

Familiarity:
I've put it through the wringer

These tubes are light and great to ride for sure. Somewhat more puncture-prone 'cause they're thin. But the biggest knock on them is that they are terrible to use for roadside flat replacement because they will tear or pinch if you so much as look at them slightly funny as you're installing them. If you have a tight tire that you have to use a lever to encourage over the rim, well forget it, you're gonna tear or pinch these tubes. I'm using up my stock of these only when I can replace tubes under perfect conditions in my garage. I'm not an idiot, I'm a very experienced mechanic and I've fixed more than a hundred flats on the side of the road and I know all the tricks. These tubes are unforgiving.

Reliable lightweight tubes

Familiarity:
I've put it through the wringer

I've used these Race Lights for about a decade. I have not had a defective one yet. They feel noticeably lighter than standard tubes, and they also feel a lot more supple. For just slightly more money than a standard tube, I think they are worth it for the improved ride quality and road feel. They still flat, obviously, but they don't seem to be any more prone to punctures than standard tubes.

Have been using this tube for 12 years, 5,000 km/yr, pumped at 140psi. Wouldn't think of using any other tube.

4 flats in one week

That's probably one of the worst tubes I had. Very easy to get flat.

Consistently getting flats with these

Familiarity:
I've used it several times

I have tried these on my 25mm GP5000 tires several times over the past year. I consistently get flats. I switched to latex 8 months ago and have been riding fine since until I had a puncture. Unfortunately, I had a spare race light butyl tube as my backup. This flatted on me before I got home. I would not recommend these tubes. I'm wondering if the butyl is stretched too much inside the 25mm tire. These are both continental products so I would assume they work well together.
