Don’t worry— the little old ladies get paid well.

Vectran isn’t a sci-fi character and Eric Zabel’s not joking when he says, ‘hot tires!’ in reference to Continental’s Competition Tubular Road Bike Tires. Sewn by little old ladies in Korbach, Germany, the Competition uses Vectran Technology—a liquid crystal polymer that prevents punctures--so you don’t have a day like Cadel Evans in the ’09 Veulta. The tires contain silica compound in the rubber, so when it’s raining cats and dogs your wheels remain stuck to the pavement.

Better tubulars out there

  • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

Disappointed in the ride quality - not very supple, even at a lowish-for-me 100psi. Seem to roll out fast and corner okay, but I find some of the Veloflex or Vittoria offerings superior...and at a lower price. Not a bad thing these fit on the tight side - just prestretch and warm them up a little beforehand. I managed 1,800 miles with a midway rotation. No punctures.

Go to tubulars hands down!

  • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

I've tried many different brands and by far these are one of the best out there. They're tough and withstand a lot of road debris. I've punctured once since riding on these and I'm on my third pair. They WILL be extremely tough to mount if you do not folllow the instructions. PRE-STRETCH on wheels for 24hrs to 48hrs before applying glue for final install or else you will end up like Corey S. that gave these an unjust review. Can't go wrong with these. They are very well made, look fantastic and grip like crazy.

Crap Tires

  • Familiarity: I've used it several times

I making my patriotic duty as an American as they must have some small ass rims in Germany. These are a god dam nightmare to mount and I am not joking you need to be Conan or some other muscle bound ass to mount these things. Not good when your a puny cyclist that has little to no upper body strength after long periods of caloric deficit. DO NOT BUY EVER spend the extra dough on a better tire that mounts properly.

You did stretch on a rim at 10 bar for two weeks didn't you?

HTFU XX3 ...I've been riding these 5 star tubular tires for 13 years, 220 miles per week with Tufo Tape on LOOK 585 and now Pinarello Dogma 65.1 w ENVE SES 3.4 (Zipp 303 & 404's before them) on regular city roads and they hold up stronger/better than any top line tires (Schwalbe, Vittoria Roubaix, and any others sewn by italian grandmothers on hillsides overlooking the grazing cows etc)...SUPERB TIRE. Watch the youtube with 'Hans' from Continental if you don't know how to prep and change a tire, but don't knock an outstanding company and tire.

Is this the latest model with the new Black...

Is this the latest model with the new Black Chili compound? Thanks

This is the '07 model which doesn't feature Black Chili rubber.
