Unsure for a female-fit

  • Gender: Female
  • Familiarity: I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions

I really REALLY want to like this pack. It's the perfect size and I love the hydration system. I knew I was taking a gamble purchasing a men's pack because the sizing can be funky for women...and I think that's the issue with this pack for me. Because of the stiffness along the back of the pack (which I thought I would like), the pack is too wide to fit a woman's body between the shoulder blades (at least for me...I'm slim, but I have very wide shoulders for a girl). It rubs my shoulder blades all weird, and it makes me very reluctant to take this pack on an outing that is more than an hour because I don't want to get rubbed beyond annoyance and end up carrying it by hand. Over a heavier softshell or fleece, it's OK, but I want this to be my go-to pack...and right now, I'm too scared to take it out on anything serious. Not good :( Will probably end up sending it back even though I keep willing it to fit me right... Major bummer. Fits my boyfriend just dandy though! :)

Try Opsprey's new "Raven" pack, made to fit women better; still has all the same options and has the same capacity as the guys. I got the Raven 14; my friend has the Raptor 14: I tried his on, then the Raven, and the Raven does fit better after all; it's a little shorter/torso length (I'm 5"6"); and I snugged it all the way, so there is plenty of strap left for larger ladies. Got the purple, which is great; only wish they would also come out with a version in black...maybe next year. But it does fit really well
