These prevent bonk, that is assumed and is also true. They are easy to eat hour after hour on your bike or run. What sets these apart from other chews is the packaging. You will never eat all of them in a single sitting (on the saddle) so having the "tube" shape to the packaging allows you to rip the top off, push a few out with your fingers and toss it back into your jersey pocket. Then, go win the race. I've even seen people in lick the bottom of a few blocks then stick them to their toptube for easy consumption. I haven't tried this myself, but apparently they stay on their pretty well.
