This bell looks cool. Or, as cool as a bike bell can possibly look. It's rather small and unobtrusive. The design is clean and simple. But it doesn't work all that well. Sure, if I want to ride home at night, dinging a bell over and over just to hear it, it's fine. But if you live in a city where cars like to use bike lanes for auxiliary parking, and they often begin merging into you without looking, this bell will not get their attention. It dings once each time you ping it, and it's not that loud. Also, the simple nature of its design doesn't leave much clearance for the piece that strikes the bell, so it doesn't work very well if you have brakes or grips on your handlebars.

You nailed it. This is exactly the problem: "Also, the simple nature of its design doesn't leave much clearance for the piece that strikes the bell, so it doesn't work very well if you have brakes or grips on your handlebars."
