Nice cool weather jersey
- Gender: Male
- Familiarity: I've used it several times
Appearance and fit: As with all Castelli items, you most likely will want to size up. I normally take a small in everything (29" waist, 35.5" chest), but bought a medium. While the arms have a little extra fabric, which is okay because it leaves a little space for layering, the fit is still trim. A proper small would probably be almost like a second skin, which might suit the legitimate racers but would crush the self-esteem of anyone with any flaws (love handles, spare tire). Aesthetically, the jersey looks sharp--the picture doesn't do it justice.
Functionality: Castelli rates the jersey for wear in 59-68 degree temps, but I would only suggest this if you're not acclimated to cooler temps. I can only see someone wearing this at 68 if it was cloudy and windy. I've worn this on a 7am ride with clear skies and 40 degree temps (10 mph winds) with only a base layer and the Castelli Sorpasso knickers. I felt comfortable throughout the ride--dry and neither too hot nor too cool. This is why you pay the big bucks for this gear. The jersey isn't windproof, so I felt noticeably cooler when I turned into the wind; however, that's a feature and not a defect of the design, which is to let air in to keep you dry.
On the back is the red Castelli TT, which helps with visibility (and looks pretty darned cool, too).
