I don't have much experience with really high end bike gear (e.g. Castelli) so I don't know what the standard is, but I do have quite a bit of gear by what I consider to be good manufacturers (Pearl Izumi, Louis Garneau) and this is much nicer than just about any bike gear I've ever bought. I wanted to try something by Hincapie because 1) I was curious what bike gear designed and tested by pros would be like and 2) from everything I've heard about George Hincapie, I am really happy to support his business.
This jersey is fantastic. I don't know what the material is, but it is soft and streches easily and feels luxurious. The jersey is beautiful too. Then there are the seemingly little things that I have been surprised so many companies get wrong: for example, the only conclusion I can come to about why a company would make a jersey or jacket zipper hard to handle when you have a glove on is either that they just don't care or they don't ride bikes, but I have a bunch of cold weather gear with hard-to-handle zippers (do you hear me Pearl Izumi?). The Hincapie zipper falls right into my hand, even with a bulky glove on (I live in Michigan hand have been using this as one of a few layers) and unzipping the jersey can be done instantly and with no thought or trouble. It is exactly what I would expect from a high quality jersey designed by serious bike riders. The waist also has some soft elastic material so that it is sealed tight around you when riding. This is the sort of item that is clearly of such high quality and so well designed that the (high) purchase price seems well worth it: you are getting a lot for your money. This is going to be my first choice company for bike clothing from now on.
