Whether it's in your head or recorded on a calendar somewhere, take a look at your schedule for the upcoming year. Now, filter for bike rides, and categorize them by type. If the resulting data points describe a range of events including charity rides, training, mountains, flats, criteriums, and/or everything in between with no particular focus on one over the other, then you're the ideal candidate to mount up on the Colnago AC-R 105 Complete Bike.
Starting with the raw materials that constitute the frame, the AC-R is built to combine forgiving comfort and sharp responsiveness for that legendary ride quality underpinning Colnago's reputation. Like the line-topping C60 and V1-R frames, the CLD's carbon fiber is 100% sourced from Toray's Japanese factory. Toray also has operations in China and elsewhere, but the carbon produced in Japan is the most consistent in the world — guaranteed perfect, every time, so you don't have to worry about random structural failures. That's why it's the only material Boeing will use in its aircraft and Colnago will use in its carbon frames.
The AC-R's geometry also reflects Colnago's inveterate expertise. It's the same as Colnago's retired M10, which was the Italian manufacturer's flagship monocoque frameset before the advent of the all-new V1-R. The M10's geometry was built for racing in the European peloton, and the AC-R doesn't disappoint in this regard. The long wheelbase provides confident, comfortable control in sweeping corners, fast descents, and variable terrain, but the abbreviated head tube means that the front end can be slammed enough to satisfy the most critical of crit racers. Whatever your application, the AC-R is equal to it.
As you'd expect from a Colnago, the AC-R also places a premium on comfort without sacrificing responsiveness. It ensures efficient power transfer with elements like the tapered head tube, a built-up bottom bracket, and shaped chainstays while smoothing the ride with compliant, flattened seatstays. The oversized legs on the carbon fork also absorb road noise and complement the frame's secure handling.
Finally, we have an admission to make. We absolutely love the new Shimano 105 11-speed components. As a premium bicycle retailer, this is something we should probably keep under wraps, but the improved indexing, trim, and cable pitch of the shifters and derailleurs will eventually give the secret away, so we may as well own up to it now. Once you're out spinning on the AC-R 105, you won't regret the few extra grams the drivetrain carries compared to Dura-Ace and Ultegra, but you will appreciate the heavier wallet. While Colnago opts for its own proprietary Artemis wheelset X brakes for the build, it lets Selle Italia and Deda finish the bike with the saddle and cockpit, the two key points of contact with the frame.
