For pedaling, not paddling.

If surfing brown pow seems more fun than paddling out, but you still dig a beach-inspired aesthetic, the Club Ride Mountain Surf Shorts have your name written all over them. That’s because the board-short cut hides a host of features to keep you comfortable on the bike. And whether it’s an afternoon barbecue, or a 50-mile singletrack slog, they’ll keep you coming back for more.

Club Ride built the Mountain Surf shorts out of its PowerWeave fabric. The polyester blend was chosen because it’s abrasion-resistant, stretchy, and it has excellent wicking properties. Basically, PowerWeave’s construction helps to pull moisture away from the skin, and to the surface of the shorts where it can evaporate. In other words, it fights to keep you cool and dry when you’re working up a sweat. And since it’s UPF30 rated, it blocks harmful UV rays, keeping you protected.

While the cut of the Mountain Surf shorts keeps them looking at home on a break, features like the adjustable side-buckle waist adjustment and the single, zippered rear pocket make them even better for logging miles. And you’re unlikely to notice the seamless crotch gusset, which is a good thing, because it enhances both comfort and durability.

The Club Ride Apparel Mountain Surf Shorts are available in four sizes, from Small to X-Large, and in the colors Raven Plaid and Charcoal Plaid.

  • PowerWeave fabric
  • Blocks harmful UV rays
  • Seamless crotch gusset
  • Adjustable side-buckle waist adjustment
  • Zippered pockets

Best all-day MTB short out there

  • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer
  • Fit: True to size
  • Size Bought: M

Great fit and look for on and off the bike all-day, multi-activity use.

Great shorts, LIGHTNING fast shipping!

  • Familiarity: I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions
  • Fit: True to size
  • Size Bought: Medium

The shorts are great, look great, and fit great. I can't comment on longevity, as I ordered them last night and received them today, but I am impressed with the fit and finish. I will ride with these, as the pockets are laid out well, however my purchase was more for something that would last a long time for casual wear, and these for the bill perfectly. I ordered the light grey and dark blue ones, the grey is slightly darker than the pictures show, which is actually preferable to me, and the dark blue is pretty right on.

Would buy again, although based on other reviews I have seen, it'll be a long time before these wear out.

Last thing, special shout out to backcounty, I ordered these yesterday at 4:25PM with the offered free 2 day shipping, got a shipping notice last night, and received them today at around 12:30PM. Can't beat that!

Best over-short around

  • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

I love these shorts, practical enough for casual use off the bike, but with a ride inspired fit. I have these and the Cargo Away shorts, and the both fit the same, but I'd say the Mtn Surfs have a little sturdier feel to the fabric. These fit and feel great on the bike. They don't sit low in the crotch (others I own will get hung up on the saddle), but aren't restrictive in their movement. I was in Phoenix over thanksgiving, and it was great to only have to pack these 2 over-shorts. I used them for riding, and then as casual shorts the rest of the time.

On and Off Trail

These are the best bike shorts I've ever worn. They fit great and look terrific (5'7", 160lbs and wear small). Further - they are nice enough for any post-ride drink / meal. I just bought them again in the other color and may decide to stock up just in case they change the fit. Buy them!!
