Description

Easy to carry, tasty, and full of nutrition.

Variety is the spice of life -- we couldn't agree more. We understand ('cause we've been there) that after numerous hours of training and racing, the body needs to mix it up a little in terms of what goes in the tank. That's why the folks at Clif Bar set out to create another energy food option that complements their bars and gels. The result is Clif Shot Bloks. They're simple-to-handle, easy-to-chew, and provide similar nutrition to Shot gel, so they'll fit seamlessly into your training and racing nutrition program.

The primary ingredient for Shot Bloks is brown rice syrup which provides easily assimilated carbohydrates for working muscles, and they provide the mineral salts known as electrolytes. These electrolytes allow electrical impulses to travel properly throughout your body, permitting normal bodily function. When you sweat, you start to deplete your electrolyte stores and experience potential performance decline, so it's best to help replenish them through food and fluid intake.

Clif created Shot Bloks, each in a 10g size, so that 3 Bloks provide 100 calories. That makes it easy to track caloric intake during long outings. There are 6 Bloks to a single serve package, so one package provides 200 calories.

In one order of Shot Bloks you'll get 18 individual 6-Blok packages. The individual packages slide easily into your jersey pocket for quick access while taking up minimal space. This design also keeps it simple to squeeze the Bloks directly into your mouth for single handed re-fueling. Bloks are available in Black Cherry, Cola, Orange, Margarita, Cran Razz, Lemon Lime, Mountain Berry and Strawberry. Black Cherry and Cola have 50mg caffeine, Orange has 25mg. Margarita has 3x the sodium while the remaining Shot Bloks offer no additional stimulants. Please be forewarned that you're all-but-certain to get terribly addicted. For all of their nutritional value, they are candy on the palate. In our experience it's the first athlete-focused food you'll ever need to protect from the non-athletes in your life.

Great snack while hiking!

  • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

My first experience with Shot Blox was horrible - a Walt Disney World half marathon at night. They passed them out at mile 9 - how in the heck do you scramble to open a pack while running?!? Ended up tossing them into the trash...

Fast forward to hiking... these are great! Awesome to slide into a cargo pocket or pouch on your pack - eat a couple, move on. I wish that there was a multi flavor pack, instead of having to visit a local store for flavors - but that's just me.

These do the trick - and I prefer the caffeine laced ones. Like a gummi bear molded into a cube, they do the trick!

Provides a reasonable boost.

  • Familiarity: I've used it several times

I eat these on days when I'm dragging a little more than usual and they seem to help. The texture is kinda strange so I can't eat a ton of them at a time.

Feeling tired? Eat these!!

  • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

I love having these with me on a tour or hike. When I start feeling tired and can't get past that last leg I munch on a couple of these and voila! I'm good to go till the end! I am really impressed with these at first I thought they were a gimmick but after trying them I am a true believer! I love the cran-rasberry flavor the most but the strawberry is a close first as well! I highly recommend these for any outdoor sport! If you have any questions about these don't hesitate to hop on our live chat line and ask for me (Jane H.) I'm more than happy to answer your questions!

Excellent complement to Osmo

  • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

Hydration in the bottle, nutrition in the pocket. I buy these in bulk, switching flavors with every purchase. I've come to appreciate the ones with a bit of caffeine <grin>. I cut the sleeve in half, and eat one Blok every 20 minutes. Very convenient, and since starting this, have yet to bonk.

They can get old on a longer ride, so I augment them with a more traditional protein bar on the hour during longer rides, so a Shot Blok at 20 and 40 minutes, a protein bar at the top of the hour, rinse, repeat.

"Strawberry fields forever"

  • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

They help with a burst of energy and they also taste really good too! Love all the flavors but strawberry is my favorite.

Delicious

  • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

though more expensive than gummy bears or swedish fish, they're tasty and one of my favorite treats in the backcountry. I can work through a single pack over the course of a mile or two, just eating one blok at a time. Be sure to drink water with them/in between bloks as they are high in sugar and will rot your gut and can lead to a spike and crash.

Delicious

Delicious & Nutritional!

  • Familiarity: I've used it several times

A wonderfully delicious way to get much needed electrolytes! Super compact & lightweight. I always carry a pack of these shot bloks in my hip belt pocket. Good stuff.

essentials

  • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

as long as you dont let these guys heat too much and turn into a giant gummy worm, they are the perfect size to eat. frozen ones help bring immediate post-workout sugar when its hot. when warm they can be mixed into tea or other drinks. pretty much endless options for consumption, instant energy, and extra nutrients if necessary.

Shot Bloks w/caffeine!

  • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

These bloks are a must have on any type of all day trip. My body is pretty sensitive to caffeine but these don't seem to bother me. My only gripe is that when the get cold they are a bit hard.

Strawberry

  • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

I really like the Strawberry flavor. Mountain Berry's not bad. Cran-razz didn't wow me, and Margarita wasn't as good as I had hoped (I guess nothing can compare to the real thing). In the list of chewy energy things, ranked by chewiness, this falls in the middle of Gu Comps (harder to chew) and Honey Stingers (easier to chew). The packaging can be a little tough to deal with while running. I like to cut the package in half before my run so I have two mini tubes and I can just slide the next Shot Blok up into my mouth as needed; no fumbling while running.

Energy Shot

  • Familiarity: I've used it several times

These are awesome I use them when I go climbing and can be very helpful in terms of boosting my energy levels back up. Not only do they help with a burst of energy bu they also taste really good

Great trail/road treat

  • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

These are great treats. They do give you a boost, even if it is mostly mental (see sugar cubes on the tongue study) I generally throw 2 in, chew them up and push them into my lip for "hiker chew"
I actually like all the flavors

Great boost!

  • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

I don't have anything different than other reviewers. However, I wish these came in single serving packs (3 chews) - would be easier for me to carry in the small pocket on the back of my running shorts or in fuel belt. Other than that, these are sooo great!

Amazing

  • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

I just ran the Wasatch Back Relay and was having some cramping issues on my first run!!!!! I thought to myself I would never make it. Lucky enough more experienced runners were in my crew and they recommended these!! The margarita flavor with the added sodium helped me keep water in and keep hydrated!! I give these an A++++ I will be using them for all my endurance events. I never thought of extra sodium to help with cramping, but sure enough with these bad boys they totally made all the difference. I crushed my next two legs and had a blast!!!

Perfect Bike Energy

  • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

I love shot blocks, they seem to be perfect for energy boosts on shorter distance/duration rides - caffeine is an added bonus. The package makes it easy to consume all or none & save for later rides.

Perfect On Trail Pick-Me-Up

  • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

I just bought a box of these and am so incredibly happy with my decision. Whether you are hiking, climbing or ski touring, throw some of these in your pocket and any time you are feeling low on energy just throw one of these chewy gummies in your mouth and within minutes you will have your second wind. I have tried the Strawberry, Mountain Berry and Cran-Razz and of those three the Cran-Razz is probably my favorite, but they are all very tasty, and I'm sure the flavors I haven't tried are just as good.

Perfect to keep in your pack or pocket

  • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

These are by far my favorite little snacks to keep in my pack. Since they are more like gummies you can keep a package in your pocket and snack on them throughout the day. They are great for touring as I haven't had an issue with them freezing as most granola bars do.
