Easy to carry, tasty, and full of nutrition.

Variety is the spice of life -- we couldn't agree more. We understand ('cause we've been there) that after numerous hours of training and racing, the body needs to mix it up a little in terms of what goes in the tank. That's why the folks at Clif Bar set out to create another energy food option that complements their bars and gels. The result is Clif Shot Bloks. They're simple-to-handle, easy-to-chew, and provide similar nutrition to Shot gel, so they'll fit seamlessly into your training and racing nutrition program.

The primary ingredient for Shot Bloks is brown rice syrup which provides easily assimilated carbohydrates for working muscles, and they provide the mineral salts known as electrolytes. These electrolytes allow electrical impulses to travel properly throughout your body, permitting normal bodily function. When you sweat, you start to deplete your electrolyte stores and experience potential performance decline, so it's best to help replenish them through food and fluid intake.

Clif created Shot Bloks, each in a 10g size, so that 3 Bloks provide 100 calories. That makes it easy to track caloric intake during long outings. There are 6 Bloks to a single serve package, so one package provides 200 calories.

In one order of Shot Bloks you'll get 18 individual 6-Blok packages. The individual packages slide easily into your jersey pocket for quick access while taking up minimal space. This design also keeps it simple to squeeze the Bloks directly into your mouth for single handed re-fueling. Bloks are available in Black Cherry, Cola, Orange, Margarita, Cran Razz, Lemon Lime, Mountain Berry and Strawberry. Black Cherry and Cola have 50mg caffeine, Orange has 25mg. Margarita has 3x the sodium while the remaining Shot Bloks offer no additional stimulants. Please be forewarned that you're all-but-certain to get terribly addicted. For all of their nutritional value, they are candy on the palate. In our experience it's the first athlete-focused food you'll ever need to protect from the non-athletes in your life.

  • 18 sleeves of 6 Bloks
  • 100 calories per three blocks
  • Contains carbohydrates and electrolytes
  • Some flavors contain extra sodium or caffeine

Easy to eat and keeps the legs going

  • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

By far my favorite food gel while I'm on the move. Particularly great for mountain biking because you can throw it in the back of the jersey and open and eat with one hand easily. They provide quick energy / simple sugars, don't upset the stomach and are really easy / quick to eat. My favorite is the cran-razz but I've tried other flavors and thought they were pretty good as well.

Fruit snacks on the trail!

  • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

These have been my favorite trail snack for a quick energy injection for years, and I'm so happy that Clifbar has worked on taste and packaging over the years. The current packaging is really handy for dispensing a few blocks at a time, then you can twist the package closed and pop it back in your pack without worrying they will fall out. I like the "red" flavors best, but have heard good things about all of the current flavors. Not the best choice for sustaining energy during a long endurance event, but great for a quick pick me up when some sugar is needed.

Excellent

  • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

These things not only give you a phenomenal amount of energy without a crash, but they taste like delicious margaritas! (or whatever flavor you choose). The only problem is sometimes I eat too many at once and run out super fast... so try to pace yourself for the best energy delivery. Or don't.

Clifbar Clif Shot Bloks

  • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

I haven't had a flavor that I didn't like. Good stuff.

The packaging makes these easy to grab a bite on the move.

So good!

  • Familiarity: I've used it several times

Love these for hikes or for shoving in my fishing bag! I like the strawberry and black cherry flavors the best. They taste just like fruit snacks or gummy bears. The black cherry flavor has caffeine which is a nice pick me up during a long run or hike.

Pros: tastes great, no mess like clif goo

Cons: packaging is weird and long

So good!

Energy Party Bloks

  • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

I love Shot Bloks probably more than I should. I'll use them skiing, biking, hiking, and eating at my house when I definitely don't need it. Almost all of them taste great and they're easy to throw in your pocket.

Pros:
-Easy to eat. I found some gel's make me need to consume it with water with it, these don't seem to be as necessary to do that (though you should stay hydrated!).
-Tasty. Seriously all of them are good. Almost like candy. Trail candy.
- For bikeracers, protip: you can lick the bottoms and stick them onto your frame and they'll stay there so you don't need to mess with opening a package while riding. Might need to clean the top tube after, but neat trick.
-I like the amped up sodium Margarita or caffeine if I need an extra kick.

Cons:
-They're addictive and you will need to buy more quickly as they are that good.
-I like the caffeinated ones, but don't love the Black Cherry flavor. Only flavor I'm not a fan of, but know people who dig it.

My personal favorite flavor is pictured here - Strawberry Margarita. Has a sweet & semi salty taste and they're perfect for bike parties.

Delicious Quick Boost

  • Familiarity: I've used it several times

These are awesome. They are great to bring along for a long day of hiking, biking or a quick boost before a workout. My favorite flavor is the Cran-Razz. I recommend having these to put in your pack, always.

Quick Energy!

Love these for a quick boost on the skin track. The packaging makes these super easy to eat and carry in a pocket for consumption.

Best flavor ever

  • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

These blocks (margarita) make we want to go and race... so i have an excuse to eat them.. this flavor is like candy. but not too sweet, and a nice salty taste..

Best quick energy for biking

  • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

Blocks are much better than gels. I hate using a gel during biking and then having to deal with the mess of the remaining gel in the packet the rest of the ride. Blocks make life much easier. Citrus or Mountain Berry for taste.

Energy Boost

  • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

I'm hooked on these things. The ones with caffeine really provide that extra kick when you start fading on the trail. I bring them on every ride and sometimes just munch 'em when i'm tired at work. The Orange flavor is tasty.

Delicious

  • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

I've grown very used to having these with me on pretty much any ride, and they are awesome. Very delicious and a solid pick-me-up to keep you going. I'll mix it up with most of the brands that offer these sort of things, my favorites would be these Shot Bloks and the chews from Honey Stinger. Both are awesome, as Jason mentioned I would have to give Clif the nod on packaging though.

My current favorite is Tropical punch, but I have yet to try one I hated.

Reserve fuel miles out or extra kick?

  • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

i favor the margarita for the extra sodium I need from over perspiring in the summer heat. All flavor are delicious and habituating. Be careful to limit use if you are trying to burn fat! They are critical limp home fuel if you burn out too soon on your ride still miles from home and an extra kick if you need that boost to knock out some quality strava segments.

Packaging FTW

  • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

The package is what makes these great for cycling, easy to split open the top and grab one block at a time. I like honey stinger blocks too, but they are much harder to eat while riding. Have tried most of the flavors and like margarita or cran-razz the best.

Light and refreshing

  • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

Another great grab and go option from Clif, though I never got on the clifbar band wagon as I dont believe in leaving a little Hansel and Gretel trail down the center of a route, I have embraced Clif's other energy supplement options. I particular like the orange blok snack, leaned on these heavily while backpacking in Arches on some pretty steamy days this past year.

Strawberry flavored awesomeness!

  • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

Has anyone in their right mind ever said no to a delicious gummy treat?! Apparently these even have some nutritional value to them... bonus!
These are perfect for backpacking. Super easy to throw in a pocket or pouch and munch really quick on the trail. Provides that awesome little bit of energy you need when you're really dragging ass and need some motivation!
Tastes a lot better than the gel energy shots-- much more palatable, and way easier to save a few of them to snack on later. The strawberry ones are my jam right now!
