King from top to bottom.

Square tapered bottom brackets were the norm when Chris King first bounced around the notion of entering the bottom bracket market. In fact, King collaborated on the Isis Drive standard, but held out on production. That's because King knew that turbulence existed, as multiple other standards were on the horizon. Once the dust settled, however, Chris King confidently entered the market in the fashion that it's renowned for -- as is found in the PressFit 30mm Bottom Bracket.

Compatible with PF30 equipped frames, the PressFit 30mm cups house 24 King-manufactured stainless steel balls in each cartridge. If you're unaware of the significance of this, King's precision ball bearings are held to a much higher standard than the industry norm. This level of thoroughness established the reputation for reliability of King's hubs and headsets, and now, its bottom brackets.

To ensure that reliability, the bearings are user-serviceable with King's Grease Injection Tool (available separately). Simply add fresh grease with the tool to purge gunky, used grease, and to keep things spinning smoothly. This system also has a fringe benefit for racers -- it provides the option to run thin grease, or even oil, on race day in order to minimize bearing drag. And, when you're not racing, it's a snap to inject thicker grease in order to maximize durability.

The Chris King PressFit 30mm Bottom Bracket is compatible with both 68 and 73mm PF30 frames, and it will work directly with BB30 of PF30 cranks. A conversion kit is available for 24mm road, 24mm mountain, or 24/22mm mountain cranksets. It is available in the colors Black and Red.

Great investment

  • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

Purchased this BB for my Evo HM build. CK has made a great BB that really can be put through its paces. The added point to service the BB myself if I choose to buy the injector tool is a plus. I chose the standard, non ceramic as the gains are so minimal I saw no need to spend the extra money, which the savings could be passed along to get the injector if needed. Don't over analyze this possibility, just get it and be stoked your BB is top notch, with no sound or issues coming your way. Oh and made in USA! C'mon seriously, what's not to love about keeping a company making it's products stateside and not exporting.

Will this work with Campagnolo Super Record Ultra Torque? Or does it require an adaptor?

Best Answer Responded on

Gary, Traditional bottom brackets like this, regardless of size standard, do not work with Ultra Torque. Ultra Torque are essentially their own bottom bracket. If you want to use Campy in a BB30 or PF30 bottom bracket shell, you would use the BB30 or PF30 Ultra Torque adapters. The Ultra Torque cranks and adapters take the place of a bottom bracket like this one.

The radius of the machining on the outer lip of one bearing cup (where the lettering is stamped )was very different than the other. One side had a rounded machined surface, the other bearing cup was flattened. I discussed it with Chris King, and they said this was not intentional. They supported a return and replacement. It does not present a structural issue, and is cosmetic only. BUT, for a bling company like King, a defect that is a cosmetic issue should not happen, and is not acceptable. I bet there are others out there that go unnoticed.

solid BB with easy install

  • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

running this PF30 on my Pin Dogma XC with conversion kit #2 for XT 2x crankset. installation was a breeze, even with internal cable routing. conversion kit is simple to fit. BB is silent with very smooth action. this is my first PF30 build, so not sure if alternatives at lower prices are a good option or not. i'm happy with this one for sure, and "if" it ever wears out, maybe i'll try another brand. hopefully i never have to find out.

Will this fit Niner Air 9 Carbon?

Will this fit Niner Air 9 Carbon?

Should fit fine (I built an Air 9 for my wife a couple of years back). You'll need a PF30/BB30 crankset, or if you want to use Shimano or another 24 mm spindle crank, you need an adapter. Or you can use one of the new PF30 bottom brackets that are designed for 24 mm cranks (Wheels Mfg and Hope make them, I think...).

Will this system work with a BB30 system...

Will this system work with a BB30 system of a Orbea Orca bike?

Should be good to go - I also have used this with BB30 - worked well :) I use a tiny amount of gasket sealer (goes on like grease, then turns into a rubberized seal after curing) between the BB shell and the BB adapter - works well.

Responded on

PF30 frames/BB shells have a diameter of 46. BB30 frames/BB shells have a diameter of 42.
PF30 bottom brackets won't fit on frames with BB30 bottom brackets requirements (Cannondale).
BB30 cranks will work with PF30 and BB30 bottom brackets.

Chris King Press Fit 30mm Bottom Bracket

You all know the quality of Chris King products, so do yourselfs a favor and drop in on this BB before you waste money on other BB's that you will replace in 4 months. I'm sure this BB will outlast me and my bike. Super bomber and no un-goldly noise. While your at it you might as well drop in on the Chris King bottom bracket grease injector to keep your new BB running smooth forever.

Got tired of constantly replacing the SRAM Red PF30 in my C'dale SS EVO. Did the research and bought the King PF30 and used the appropriate loctite to install it into the frame (no, I'm not going to suggest which loctite to use as it will differ depending on your frame material - you'll have to do your own research).
End Result? Pure joy! BB is rock solid, smooth, and QUIET! I mean SILENT!Also, the King PF30 is SOOOOO much easier when installing/removing the crankset (i.e. no more rubber mallet needed to install/remove the BB spindle - sorry C'dale, but hammers and carbon fiber are not a good combo).
I've used King headsets and hubs for years, and so far, this BB is everything you would expect a King product to be. Worth every penny!
I would recommend picking up the King BB Grease Injector Tool if you Loctite the BB into your frame though.
