When Chris King finally entered the bottom bracket market, the wishes of cycling enthusiasts and shop technicians, worldwide, were answered. King's reputation of turning maintenance-intensive, grimy components into reliable, not to mention handsome, apparatuses pushed that desire. And, when you check out the PressFit 24mm Bottom Bracket, you'll quickly see why there was so much anticipation.
The PressFit 24mm bottom bracket houses 24 King-manufactured stainless steel ball bearings in each cartridge. If you're unaware of the significance of this, King's precision ball bearings are held to a much higher standard than the industry norm. This level of thoroughness established King's reputation for reliability in headsets, and now, bottom brackets.
To ensure that reliability, the bearings are user-serviceable with the Grease Injection Tool (sold separately). To keep things spinning smoothly, simply add fresh grease with the tool in order to purge gunky, used grease. This system also has a fringe benefit for racers -- it provides the option to run thin grease, or even oil, on race day in order to minimize bearing drag. And, when you're not racing, it's a snap to inject thicker grease in order to maximize durability.
The Chris King PressFit 24mm Bottom Bracket fits 24mm road cranks and 86.5mm bottom bracket shells, 24mm mountain cranks and 89.5mm, or 92mm bottom bracket shells, out of the box. 86.5mm shells and 24/22mm road cranks will require King's Conversion Kit #7, while 24/22mm mountain cranks and 89.5 or 92mm shells will need Conversion Kit #6. The bottom brackets are available in either Black or Red.
