Some bike manufacturers regard "utility" as a dirty word. Bikes are art, they say, not machines designed to do be ridden, to which Charge Bikes replies "Why can't they be a little bit of both?" That ethos has powered the Great Britain-based company for the whole of its 10-year history, and the bikes that result have sleek shapes, clean lines, and bomber designs that are meant to be ridden by average Joes and experienced riders alike.
The Cooker 4 falls smack in the middle of the suspension-forked Cookers — it's slightly fancier than the Cooker 3, but not quite as expensive as the 5 — but all three have the same burly aluminum frame, efficient geometry, and sexy understated design. Like its siblings, the Cooker 4 also rocks Charge's trademark extra-wide 27.5in wheels and tires (27.5+), which strike an unreal balance between stability, traction, and shock absorption, so you can roll over rocks and roots with supreme confidence.
If you're still looking for more smoothness, don't worry. A reliable and easy to service RockShox Reba RL fork takes the Cooker 4's trail-smoothing capabilities to the next level, and the tubeless-ready WTB tires can be ridden at low pressures for an even less bouncy ride. Charge built the 1x11 drivetrain with SRAM's GX derailleur with matching shifter so you can run through the gears with buttery smoothness, and finished the Cooker 4 off with reliable Shimano SLX disc brakes, because speed's only sexy if you can slow down, too.
