In the pursuit of compression, we've had our wallets sapped our fair share of times. Yes, even we've succumbed to the false promises of compressive salvation. However, we've never given up hope in the concept, and thankfully, neither has the German-based CEP. With its Dynamic+ Bib Shorts, CEP actually provides graduated, medical-grade compression that will stabilize your muscles and joints, improve your blood circulation, and increase your stamina. Basically, these bib shorts are everything that we've been seeking, and then a little bit more.

And on the subject of fatigue, we'll jump into the main draw of the Dynamic+ bib shorts, their compressive qualities. You hear the term 'compression' thrown out there often. However, its true meaning, especially for race-day applications, is typically shrouded in ubiquity. So, forget what you've heard about lactic acid suppression, and enter into the world of enhanced blood circulation. Without getting too scientific, CEP designed the Dynamic+ shorts-section to have different strengths of compression in accordance to a position's distance from the heart. This is also known as graduated compression. So, the further from the heart, the stronger the fabric compression, and the closer to the heart, the lower the compression. Basically, this design places a pressure on the veins and arteries that forces the circulatory system to work faster. Accordingly, your muscles receive more oxygen, and thus muscle fatigue is thoroughly reduced. Meanwhile, power outputs and thresholds are increased.

Not surprisingly, while the aforementioned attributes would be enough for most to call it a day, CEP was just getting started. For the actual fit of the Dynamic+ bib shorts, CEP approached the cut with an anatomic, multi-paneled, and contoured designed. This means that the panels are meant to support specific muscle groups, while the shape perfectly conforms to the body throughout the various motions of a cycling. In fact, CEP claims that these shorts have been proven to reduce injuries ranging from pulled hamstrings, injured quads, and IT band issues. At the uppers, you'll find a soft open mesh and supple braces. The cut is slightly higher than usual over the stomach, only adding to the supportive nature of these bib shorts.

And while, yes, the shorts feel quite tight at first, you'll quickly notice that they don't inhibit movement at all. This is due to the selective placement of two fabrics with different deniers and compositions. Additionally, the legs feature a seamless construction, while the few seams that actually do exist have been designed to lay flat. Furthering the comfort, CEP engineering its fabrics to be highly breathable, moisture managing, and UV protective, with a rating of 50+. In fact, the shorts have been treated with Coldblack technology. In a brief summary, this treatment reflects the sun's rays instead of absorbing them like most dark colors do. As a result, Coldblack claims that it deflects 80% of the sun's heat rays, resulting in a surface temperature that's around 41 degrees Fahrenheit lower than a standard black fabric.

For the chamois, the Dynamic+ shorts feature CEP's Performance insert. Developed specifically for cycling, this chamois uses a variable density padding. This design provides a targeted level of support to key regions of the body, while tapering off where it isn't needed. As a result, the chamois efficiently moves with your body, not against it. This reduces the risk of abrasion, while also eliminating unwanted pressure on nerves like the pudendal.

The CEP Dynamic+ Bib Shorts are available in the color Black and in five sizes from II to VI. Please note that these shorts are intended to fit tightly. However, they are true to size, so don't be afraid of the small leg opening when you pull them out of the bag.

Here's what others have to say...

Nice bibs

  • Familiarity:I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions

Took several minutes to put these on because of the compression, but once on, the bib felt good. I recommend.

Worth the discounted price...

  • Familiarity:I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions

I am sure there are better bibs out there; however, for the discounted price these bibs are great. Yea...putting these bibs on make you feel like Ross from Friends and those leather pants, but once they are on, they aren't that constricting. The compression really helped out while in the saddle. Since I am 6'5" and 230lbs, these "spanx" helped out considerably. I would recommend these bibs with the discounted price.

The chamois has decent padding for the grundle.

Love them

  • Familiarity:I've used it several times

I have a pair of these now and have ridden in them 5 times, some recovery rides, some threshold efforts. The sizing has worked perfect for me (6'1, 172lb), I wear Castelli 90% of the time and am a L for those. I ordered a III for these bibs and the fit is great. Yes, much tighter in the thighs than others, but they are supposed to be and it is not a constricting tight, but the compression as noted. Great bibs if the fit is right for you and especially if you get them at the discount.

Too much compression

  • Familiarity:I returned this product before using it
  • Fit:Runs small

I usually wear either a medium or large in bib shorts (5'7", 149 lbs), so I ordered CEP's size II and III. Forget about the II. I managed to get the size III on, but they're so freaking tight you can't move. I didn't use them because I wouldn't be able to return them, I but I could tell just by walking over to the mirror in them that the compression was so great that they would be restrictive to the pedaling motion and end up slowing me down. I have other bibs that offer compression-- garneau, desoto, giordana and none of them are this bad. I can also see these ending up ripping or tearing while trying to put them on your body. I read the description and I get it, they're supposed to be tight and you're not supposed to worry about how tough it is to get them on, but this was, in no uncertain terms, ridiculous.

I have cep calf sleeves and love them. These missed the mark-- COMPLETELY.
