I've bought Castelli products before and know to go up at least one size, but the Volo Partial seemed at least two sizes to small. Generally I wear an M, and an L with Castelli and shockingly it looks as though an XL would be needed for some with my frame - 5'11 145 lbs.
Besides the sizing being awful, the overall make of the jacket seems great.
Great jacket/bad sizing
I ordered this jacket a month before the cold even started here in the Adirondacks so I was stoked when I got it.
If you use Castelli gear like I do (most everything) you know the sizing is nearly always off.
However on this item where a large top usually works for me the XL that I ordered so I could layer underneath was waaaaaay small and the zipper which is on the right on all my other Castelli gear was on the left.
Short story long, I'm riding my cold ass around with old gear.
Good thing is there'll be snow on the mountain soon.

I have a 42in chest and 30in waist what size would you recomend?
You are sort of a tweener on the sizing chart but you should be happiest with a XL. I always size up to a XL on Castelli becuase I have a more muscular build on the top side. If you have a classic rodie build up top (aka boney) you may find the L fit but the XL is will be your best best especially if you want to layer up.
Volo Partial Jacket
Really good looking jacket. Trim fit and light weight. Not going to keep you warm in temps below 45f or in windy conditiions. Ended up returning this in favor of the Spunto.
