Description

Cushy for pros, just right for the rest of us.

For Paris-Roubaix, Castelli's pro teams needed a glove with a bit more cushion than their typical minimalist gloves. Thus, the Velocissimo DS Glove was born. An overall lightweight, minimal design, the Velocissimo DS has a bit of shock- and vibration-absorbing padding at the palm to eliminate numbness and reduce fatigue.

Castelli constructed the Velocissimo DS's palms from a synthetic leather with a thin foam insert padding. This combination breathes extremely well and provides just the right amount of cushioning for choppy roads. The result is a palm material that allows you to adequately feel the road through the bars, while keeping your hands cool and dry. Silicone printed logos across the palm inserts provide texture for added grip, and microsuede panels along the backs of the thumbs allow you to comfortably remove sweat from your face.

The back panels utilize lightweight printed Lycra, which stretches to conform to your hands and aids in the transferring of moisture from your skin. The pull-on design reduces weight and bulk.

The Castelli Velocissimo DS Gloves are available in six sizes from X-Small to XX-Large and in the colors Black/anthracite/red, Black/ocean/orange fluo, and Black/acid green/red.

Good gloves but size up

  • Familiarity: I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions

These gloves consist of a stretchy spandex type material on the backs and synthetic leather / suede palms and thumbs. There is no velcro strap to release them so you have to just stretch them on and off. This makes the gloves a little difficult to remove after a ride. According to the size chart, my hands were on the small side of 'medium' but I wish I'd gotten a large.

Aside from the sizing issue though, I do believe that these gloves leave me with less hand numbness than others I have tried from Pearl Izumi and Giro, which was the main thing I was after. Also the acid green color is nice and visible for hand signals.

size problem

  • Familiarity: I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions

Seems to be a good value however the medium size is very small.
I am 150lb smaller sized male and the gloves barely fit. If you are similar sized I would suggest you order a large.
