Toes are a good thing to keep.

If you live in a region similar to ours, you know that winter saddle time can be a painful affair. And if you think that you're going to get in those base miles without covering up your soon to be frozen feet, you're sorely mistaken. We rely on the Castelli Ultra Shoe Covers to keep our toes connected to our feet in the bowels of winter's gloom. Using patented fabric that blocks winter's harshest elements, the Ultra Shoecover is a staple for anyone that it isn't satisfied with only riding four months out of a year.

While some fabrics claim to be windproof, no one produces a more rigorously tested fabric than W.L. Gore. That's why Castelli's Ultra Shoecover is made from Gore's patented WindStopper X-Fast 2 material. This microfleece fabric not only warms and repels water, but as its name suggests, it completely stops the wind's chilling effects. To further ensure that no cold or water infiltrates the cover, the Ultra Shoecover uses an anatomic design with a high cuff and waterproof rear zipper. Castelli also included reflective detailing throughout the cover for safer riding in low-light conditions.

The Castelli Ultra Shoe Covers is available in sizes from Small to XX-Large, and in the color Black.

I like 'em!

  • Familiarity: I've used it several times

I use my shoe covers for early morning spring and fall riding in Utah, usually including a decently long descent (temps anywhere from 35-60 degrees). I have been pleased with these, haven't run into any tearing or anything over the course of at least 10+ rides with them. I wear a size medium shoe cover over size 40.5 women's Sidi shoe. I have no brand comparison to make, as these are the only kind I have used. Zipper is a little tough to get up all the way.

Do their job

  • Familiarity: I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions
  • Fit: True to size

Probably not the warmest out their but are doing their job. They seem to be sturdy enough but time will tell. I have 10-1/2" and bought XL, fit great.

Be careful when walking around in them

  • Familiarity: I've used it several times

The wind stopper material works very well and is very light weight and has kept my feet warm, the only problem is they use the same material on the bottom of the shoe cover, which is very delicate and is prone to tearing if it comes in contact with the pavement. As others have mentioned they do tend to run a bit on the small size. Other than the bottom fabric, they have been great so far.

Good but delicate

  • Familiarity: I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions

I bought these to complete my winter castelli kit. my feet were always cold with other shoe covers. Although they fit well 44 was a snug large, the rear zippers are a pain to close and after wearing them twice the whole toe ripped out on the bottom. I honestly may have taken 30 steps in them? Just too thin and flimsy. I returned them!

Run small

  • Familiarity: I've used it several times

It may be part of the problem with these is sizing. The large barely fits my 43 shoe. They claim to fit 44-47, but I think they're smaller than that. Otherwise I like them

Don't waste money

  • Fit: True to size

As others have posted, these covers are surprisingly unfit for the purpose. A seam came apart and holes appeared in the bottom at the toe after only two rides. Very disappointed.
