Anything you want it to be.

Castelli wasn't exactly sure what to call its Thermo Head Thingy, but the name speaks to the piece's ability to be just about whatever you need it to be. Layer this fusion of a neck gaiter and face mask under your helmet when you can't find your cap, breathe through it as you warm up in frigid temps, or keep it around your neck to add extra insulation to that often-exposed expanse on a windy day. We're sure you could find even more purposes for it, but suffice to say this is one hell of a versatile addition to your winter cycling kit. Count on its Thermoflex construction to insulate while remaining breathable as you work hard in the cold.

  • Stay warm on your ride with this versatile neck gaiter
  • Can be converted to a hat or face mask if needed
  • Stretchy Thermoflex insulates while remaining breathable

  • Familiarity: I've used it several times

I bought this for cycling and it has been great. It also works well for skiing. It does make breathing a little harder on the bike, but I expected that. I think of it as a bonus workout for my lungs. I use it with the Castelli Thermo Skully and in addition to keeping my head/face from freezing, it looks awesome!

Really cool but slightly tight

  • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer
  • Fit: Runs small

Is a really cool piece of clothing and very versatile, the only problem is that is a bit tight. However it is a huge improvement over my regular neck warmer. I used it several times over winter and I really like it.

Love the Thingy

  • Familiarity: I've used it several times
  • Fit: True to size

Love the versatility this provides. I much prefer this and my Castelli thermo skully to a balaclava. Warm and breathable couldn't ask for much more.

Good stuff

I wasn't sure I was going to like this thingy, but it has proven itself several times now by keeping my head and ears just warm enough, but not too hot, when the temperature dips below 50°F. Pretty easy to use and works well as a scarf, too. Not so great as a nose-mask, but can function that way if it's really cold.

Snugly warm

  • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer
  • Fit: True to size

I use it as a neck gator from the low 40's down to the mid 30's. It works wonderfully to protect my face and exposed portions of my neck on rides. I can stretch it over my face easily. It does restrict breathing, but I would expect that when I cover my mouth with fabric.
Because it is so warm I sometimes want to pull the thing off, but taking it off during the ride is not an option unless you stop and remove your helmet. This usually occurs as the temperature goes up above the mid 40's. As happens in northern California.

There's a airhole hidden behind the garment tag. Not a great spot, since u will have to remove the tag without cutting the stitching and fabric.

Kewl looking, but really doesn't stretch

  • Familiarity: I returned this product before using it

Really like the concept, but the material doesn't stretch as much as you would expect. I am a petite woman and it was hard for me to just get it over my head.

Sweet Piece

  • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

This is my go to face/neckwear when it dips below 40. I took it below zero several times, and once raced Santa himself while wearing one. It's been washed 200 times... still going strong. Love it.

Sweet Piece

I've had winter Buffs and neck gaiters in the past and always had to return them because I couldn't breath through the fabric.

Just wanted to make sure this wasn't the case with this item.

This one is nice to breath through. Once you go below zero, it may "slow" the flow a bit, but I never get that suffocating feeling I've had with other head/neckwear. It is stretchy and warm and dries out pretty quickly after a wear or wash.
