Pedal through anything.

As summer gives way to blustery fall weather, rain and cold become more common companions on your training rides. If you're determined to ride through whatever comes your way, make sure you give yourself maximum protection with Castelli's Tempesta Leg Warmers. Made to be worn with the Tempesta 3/4 pants and Tempesta Shoecovers, the leg warmers seamlessly integrate to provide your legs with completely waterproof protection.

Castelli constructs the leg warmers with its proprietary Nano Flex at the thigh and knee. Nano Flex is made with stretchy Thermoflex fleece coated with nanofilaments that help water bead up and roll off the fabric. While not completely waterproof, the water repellency adds some extra protection in case rain gets in underneath the Tempesta pants.

The lower legs are made with Castelli's proprietary Reflex fabric, which is completely waterproof and is also highly reflective. Having reflective material on your legs as they move increases your visibility to motorists navigating dark, wet roads, and Castelli also recommends using the warmers in dry conditions as the days get shorter to keep you seen. Castelli ensures everything stays in place comfortably by including Giro3 leg grippers on the top of the leg warmers, and ankle zippers at the lower openings keep water out.

Great for wet and night

  • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer
  • Fit: Runs small
  • Size Bought: Large

First FIT: Fits small. I usually wear a small in Castelli and on the border of small and medium with tights. I got a Large in the leggings and they are still snug, which I'm glad I did.

PERFORMS great in the wet. Most of my wetness in the shoes comes from runoff of the calves into the tops of my booties. NO MORE!

At night, the reflective calves glow. Several drivers have slowed down to tell me that they could see me way down the road.

Size was extremely off

I own leg warmers from pearl izumi, capo, gore bike wear all in size small. This leg warmers have like 0% stretch on the silver bottom so i couldn't even get them past my knees. I would of order medium but backcountry charge me 6.99 for return even do all i wanted was to exchange for M. Quality looked ok. Maybe when they go back on sale i will try again.

Waaaaaay too small

  • Familiarity: I returned this product before using it

  • Size Bought: XL

I wear Castelli gear exclusively and size an XL in everything. These were so small in XL that I couldn't even get them on my legs. Nearly zero % stretch in the silver calf section. Never had to chance to try them in the rain….

Strange sizing, even for Castelli

My Gabba, Mortirolo, Espresso and Tempesta jackets are all size Small (and fit perfectly) as are my Nanoflex bib shorts. But the size Small Nanoflex leg warmers were so small I couldn't pull them over my calves. The Nanoflex mediums were fine. The Tempesta leggings were similar in that they were too small in size Small. Not so interestingly, the Tempesta leggings were nearly too snug in size medium. The length is about right.

Sizing aside, the Tempesta leggings worked very well by themselves and even more so with the Tempesta 3/4 pants. It poured here (Seattle) last Saturday and while my feel got a little wet after 2 hours, the legs and thighs stayed reasonably dry.

The waterproof nylon lower section is clammy after a while but the thermal lining is a nice buffer. I zipped the leggings over my Pearl Izumi WXB shoe covers without any problems (it's very snug but it kept the water out for most of a 30 mile ride). The reflective coating is really effective.

Overall, I liked them well enough to buy 2 pair.

Super tight calf but works very well.

I have never had a problem with fit with Castelli, but these are sized very oddly. They go up to my mid thigh, but the ankles can barely zipper all the way. The system is meant to zipper over the shoe booties, but that is really stretching things. My ankles / calf areas are pretty small, and even with a large, they are tight.

But the water proofness of the lower section is great. It keeps spray off your legs and really is warm. And the reflectiveness of the lowers is great. Definitely adds to the visibility.

The big downer is the tags! I have rub marks inside the back of my legs. No leg warmer should ever have tags. I'm considering cutting them off to see if I can relieve myself from rub marks. But for the price, I would not expect to have to modify the product.

1st rule for any new piece I get- cut all tags off.
