While a minimalist glove design won't do us much good at 7000' of elevation come wintertime, for more temperate climates, less is more. Case in point are the Castelli Super Nano Donna Women's Gloves. Providing just the right amount of protection for chilly weather, the Super Nano Donna gloves are the ideal choice when mercury dips below your skin's comfort level.

To stave off the chills, Castelli constructed the Super Nano Donna gloves from two materials. The body of the gloves uses the highly wind-resistant Stratolight fabric. Lightweight and highly breathable, the selection of Stratolight reflects Castelli's knowledge of what you actually need in the winter -- protection from icy winds. Taking into account your hand position at the front the bike, your hands are the first point of contact with windchill. So, by simply deflecting the wind, the Super Nano Donnas dramatically increase your hand warmth. And going even a step further, the breathability and moisture-wicking properties of the fabric keep your hands dry, and thus warmer throughout aerobic exercise.

For the palms of the gloves, Castelli used the ultra-durable and malleable Pittards leather. The patterned leather absorbs a great deal of road vibration, while providing ample grip on the cockpit. To make the Super Nano Donnas easy to get on and off when it warms up, or for the random phone call, Castelli used a stretch cuff system with a puller-tab.

The Castelli Super Nano Donna Women's Gloves are available in the color Black and in five sizes from X-Small to X-Large. Please note that Castelli recommends these gloves for temperatures ranging from 46.4 to 60.8 degrees Fahrenheit.

Like 'em! A lot.

  • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

I bought these gloves to use during the wonderful time in MN when it starts to get cool, but we don't have ice and snow yet. So far, I've used them on a 46 degree (F) ride.
I expected them to be a little large, and bought them anyway, because I was tempted by the price for the XL Women's gloves. They are a bit big, but work very well. I don't even notice it while riding. Plus, I figured I could put my normal cycling half gloves on under them if I wanted padding. While they aren't padded, I didn't notice that while riding.
The gloves were comfortable, and kept my hands warm and protected from the wind with the different fabric on the back of the hands to block the wind. My hands even got a tiny bit overheated, but not too bad at all. The leather palm has a neat texture and pattern and the gloves look great overall. I'm glad I got them!

I'll be interested to see how they perform in cooler temps and will report back.

UPDATE: Haven't really had much cooler weather yet, but I have worn them on longer rides. I noticed when I stopped for a break that my hands were getting a little sweaty. This was not uncomfortable, though. I just think that my hands are going to get a little sweaty wearing these gloves. They never got cold, though, and weren't wet. I still need to wear them in colder temps (below 40) and will report back if I notice anything different.
UPDATE - these are the PERFECT gloves to wear under my pogies for fat biking. No issues for warmth or easy movement even in sub-zero temps. I'm wishing I bought a couple of pairs. And they wash great - cold water and hang to dry.

Replacement gloves

  • Familiarity: I gave it as a gift but have feedback to share
  • Fit: True to size

Correct Nano gloves arrived replacing the ones pictured. Can't go wrong with any Nano products! Size runs the same as other women's castelli gloves. My husband has Nano gloves and they are a little tight in the cuff area. These are also a little tight putting them on. Great product if you like no padding just good grip and warm.
