Description

Gel palms help absorb shock on long, rough bike rides.

If you like the smooth lines of aero gloves, but appreciate the ease of entry and exit of traditional gloves, Castelli Pro Glove is your bag. The back stretches and breathes well, and it has a nose wipe on the thumb and Castelli's Scorpion logo on the back of the hand. Flip it over, check out the palm, and you'll see the hidden Velcro closure at the wrist covering a smartly designed pull tab. Above that, you'll see the hardy silicone patches stitched on top of gel pads on the Ultrasuede palm. Sleek, stylish, smart, 100% Castelli. The Castelli Pro Gloves come in Black and Red/white. Sizes run from Small to XX-Large.

Here's what others have to say...

poor quality

  • Familiarity: I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions

after wearing these 3 times, all on rides under 1 hour in length, multiple seams were ripping.

With these gloves I conquered Mt Everest

  • Gender: Male
  • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

Ha! Not really, but what I can tell you is that these are by far the best road cycling gloves I've ever used.

I've had these gloves since 2012 in White / Red and White / Black. Neither of my two pairs have had any issues with the thread unravelling or falling apart as others here have described.

Here's the number one reason I love these gloves?I have White Fizik Bar Tape that I've had to replace more than once due to lesser cycling gloves. Most gloves using leather or suede get sweat and dirt trapped between the bars and the gloves causing most Bar tapes to discolor and get black and dirty.

The gel pads used in these gloves do not retain dirt and do not soak up sweat. The result, no discolored bar tape. I've had the same White Fizik Bar Tape for 2 years now with no discoloration.

The gel pads also provide solid grip with Shimano Ultegra STI Shifter Hoods, I'm sure it's the same with SRAM and other Shimano STI hoods.

More importantly, the gel pads provide AWESOME comfort. I've completed many century rides with these gloves and have never had sore hand or Blisters after the event.

Pros:
+ No dirty bar tape, even after 2 years of use
+ Gel is very comfortable on the hands
+ Gel provides firm grip and is great for climbing
+ No Blisters on long rides
+ The nose wipe comes in handy
+ No wearing or fabric beading after hundreds of washes (I wash mine after each ride)

Cons:
- The white fabric on the gloves can get dirty after a couple of uses from sweat and skin oils. After two years, they have become a bit grayed / perma-dirty

Tips:
+ Wash the gloves after each ride to prevent discoloration of the white fabric and to clean the nose wipe (it's gross wiping old boogers across your face...just sayin)
+ The White Fizik Bar Tape I use is Backcountry Item# FIZ001Y
+ The Shimano Ultegra STI Shifters that I have are Backcountry Item # SHI0654

At the end of the day, these gloves provide comfort, durability, and keep your bar tape clean!

Do you put them in the washing machine , or hand wash them after each ride?

Was really wanting to like them, but...

  • Familiarity: I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions

I was really wanting to like these gloves.
I read numerous reviews and spent a lot of time trying different gloves and sizes to get the right fit. However, on the very first ride (about 30 miles), the stitching started to unravel (like other reviews have mentioned). The black of the thumb wipe and the white panel were starting to separate. If it were just that, I could chalk it up to a fluke.
I wasn't so fond of the grip as well. The palm grip would bunch as it was placed at an area where my hand would not naturally fold. That, and the padding wasn't as great as I was expecting. I ended up getting some hand numbness.
I love Castelli gear, but this was a bit of a dissapointment. For $40, I expected more. I ended up getting a pair of Bontrager Race Gel Gloves and am happy so far.

The Best

  • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

These are my absolute favorite pair of gloves. I've owned many different brands before, but once I tried these gloves out for a few long rides, I bought two more pairs. The padding on the palm is just right. Comfortable for long rides, but not too bulky. The silicone material provides great grip. The material on the thumb is very absorbent for wiping your brow. And they look great.

How do I define what size do I need? Where...

How do I define what size do I need? Where is the measurement taken from on the hand?

Best Answer Responded on

Hey Null,
The measurement is taken around your hand at the widest point (the knuckles) not including your thumb.

Work well for me

I've used these gloves for a little over a year, and am very satisfied. One reviewer said the gel padding became slick when wet...my experience is the opposite. Those gel pads become very grippy, and as such, these gloves are my go-to pair especially when it's raining. Over time, the white has become sullied and the black has bled into the white, but that's just life. I have had no issues with popped seams or any structural defects. The hook & loop wrist closures are wearing out, but again, we're talking about gloves that have been used a lot, and they function fine in spite of that. Comfort is very good, durability is excellent, styling is great as usual for Castelli. Most of my other gloves wear through the palms in a season. These are still going strong, so I'll just wear them out & hope I can find another set when it comes time to replace

bad stitching

gloves are comfortable, but finger stitching comes undone quickly. I still use these gloves after few thousand miles despite the index finger coming apart. Would actually use them again because of overall comfort and functionality. Also a note that after quite a bit of use, wiping face with glove, the white obviously gets very dirty looking and does not wash out.

Probably go with higher quality next time

In some respects, I like these gloves. Minimal padding but comfortable. However, after about 2000 miles with them, several seams are coming undone and the fingers are fraying a bit. Now, these get washed after every ride, and it isn't like they've gotten light use. But the specialized gloves that i got about the same time, and that i've alternated between look in near new condition except for a little fading. So, I like the design, but I'll probably look to a different glove for the next set.

My mistake

I really liked the gloves when they arrived, but have noticed one issue that may not impact most out there. The 'gel' padding is a smooth-surface material that does not absorb moisure and actually becomes very slick on certain surfaces (namely bare handlebars) when the sweat starts to pour. I have carbon, ergo handlebars, and the bar tape only goes just past the brake levers (the upper section feels a bit too fat for my preference with tape on it). Anyway, after a bit of sweating, if I want to place my hands in/around the crossbar, I'm in a danger zone as that area is very slick with these gloves. I guess I could bite the bullet and tape all the way up, but I'd rather not. With a glove with a more standard palm (nubuck, etc), this wouldn't be a problem, which was the case with my old Trek gloves.

Pros:
- Decent looking
- Sweat wipe area on the thumb (this is critical for me)
- Light with just enough padding (not too much, not too little)

Cons
- Padding material (as described above)
- Mine didn't come with the pull tabs as advertised

Good design but somewhat fragile

These have minimal padding which works perfect for me. I wore them for couple of hundred miles so far - no problems with things falling apart. I'm careful with the finger loops which are very handy but seem somewhat fragile. During ride they provide plenty feedback from the road and the cushioning effect is not overdone. The nose wipe works well. I'll buy Castelli again.

Disappointed and Dissatisfied

My new Castelli Pro Gloves arrived from Realcycyclist.com on-time. The gloves looked great, but without the advertized molded hook-and-loop closures. This feature was the main reason I chose these gloves. I was disappointed, but decided to say nothing. I enjoyed some long rides and appreciated the gel pads. But when the stitching on the back of each glove started to unravel, I became dissatisfied. I can’t recommend this product to anyone that is looking for a quality cycling glove.

Questionable quality

After a few hundred miles with these and one washing, a lot of the stitching was coming undone. The velcro is essentially useless, the sizing is ridiculous (I don't have particularly large hands and I had to wear a xxl o_0) and when I got into a gnarly bike crash they didn't provide that much protection. I would buy these again if they were ~$20, but at this price I just cannot recommend them.

Questionable quality
Responded on

You did say it was a gnarly crash and the gloves are fingerless. Still, I'm not sure risking hand damage to save 15.00 is a good trade - 1.50 a digit? You do realize you could save the whole 35.00 and wear nothing?

Good

like them lots, love finger pulls- not crazy about closure on bottom of plam, used to having on back of hand

Worth every penny and then some!

I really like these gloves, the ventilation they provide is superb for warm/hot weather riding, and the construction has no pressure points or seams placed right at the knuckles or webbing like some other brands I've tried. The gel padding in the palms is very well placed for riding on the hoods, flats, or in the drops and is very comfortable, yet not obtrusive. Also, the loops between the fingers to help you take them off are substantial and work very well. Even at the $35 MSRP, I think these gloves are a steal! They perform better and are much more comfortable than gloves I've tried that are considerably more expensive.

You'll love the finger loops!

After about a thousand miles with these gloves I've been impressed with their durability and functionality. The gel has held up well, even after multiple washings, and is placed correctly for my riding position (predominantly on the hoods, with some flat bar riding while climbing).
My only gripe with these gloves, and what keeps them from a perfect 5 star billing, is the velcro closure. It's useless and unnecessary, providing no real adjustment in these already well-fitting gloves. Further, it interferes with my watch (worn with the face on the bottom of my wrist). When these finally wear out I will be purchasing the Rosso Corsa glove, which doesn't have the velcro.

Nice palm pads and pull tabs

Bought these for my boyfriend..he loves them. Very comfy, easy on easy off...pads are sweet..maybe not as thick as some..but they are quite nice still...tabs are great..real easy off...Ride On!!

Great Gloves for the $$$

Really like these gloves. Don't have quite the padding as some others, but for the money they are very comfortable. I love the figer loops, which makes removing the glove super easy.
