A warm hand means a happy rider.

Cyclocross season is here. Mechanics in the pits get busy, but between laps, their hands get chilly — just like you out on the course. That's why both mechanics and riders alike will benefit from the toasty hands that are provided by the Castelli Prima Gloves.

Castelli's Prima gloves were knit with the lightweight Coolmax yarn. Essentially, this material keeps your hands warm, while also wicking away moisture caused by sweaty palms. Additionally, the gloves feature silicone grip across the entire palm and fingers, increasing dexterity as you work your grip in the cold.

The grip pattern is the reason that the gloves have become a favorite for cyclocross riders and mechanics alike. Being able to pick up and maneuver your bike by the bars or the top tube, and not have it slip in your hands, is paramount to cyclocross success. These gloves accomplish just that.

Finished with a long knit cuff, the gloves slip easily under your jacket without adding bulk. The Castelli scorpion logo on the back sets them apart from wannabes and conductive thumb and forefinger pads make smart phone operation a simplified affair. Well, they actually make it possible.

The Castelli Prima Gloves are available in the colors Black, Red, and Yellow Fluo and in the sizes Small/Medium, Large/X-Large, and XX-Large.

Pretty Awesome...

  • Familiarity: I gave it as a gift but have feedback to share
  • Fit: True to size

Love the neon yellow and the grips on the palms. The gift receipt seemed very pleased!

Pleasantly surprised

  • Familiarity: I've used it several times
  • Size Bought: L/XL

When these gloves first arrived I tried them on and was less than impressed and actually thought about returning them because the fit didn't seem to be quite what I was hoping for. Fingers were a little more snug and the cuff was a little longer than I wanted. I decided to wear them on a ride the next day to be sure and as it turned out they were great. Low 40's on the road bike and mid 30's on the fat bike (with Moose Mitts) and these gloves are warm and comfy, exactly what I was hoping for.

Toddler fingers?

Love me some Castelli but these fell short. The weight/fabric is really nice, warm when you need it without loosing any dexterity. The grippers on the palm hold up excellent in wet, muddy, CX conditions. I really like the longer cuff, something often overlooked on a lot of gloves. The touchscreen thumb/pointer work well also. However, for me there is one major flaw in these gloves. The actual gloves finger length. I could use at least an extra 1"-2" in the fingers. Oddly this is the only pair of Castelli gloves that I've ever had this problem with. I got them in "L" and even tried an "XL" I found while recently on a trip. In my opinion it seemed like there was only extra material in the palm, with the same problem again in finger length.

There is great potential for this glove, unfortunately it just doesn't work out for me. It is worth noting that according to the Castelli size chart I'm supposed to be on the small side of a "M" no.

At the end of the day these just fall short for me, literally.
