Castelli decal lifts up
After several washings, the white Castelli started to lift up. It doesn't look like the photo I posted anymore.
It's great there are finally some brands that add some color and style to the linup, like the Presto Short. I am 5' 11" 185 lbs and the large fits perfect. I generally ride between 1.5-2.5 hours and the padding is adequate. I just hope all brands take note for the color lines and style....i'm tired of just plain black bike shorts!
Castelli is guaranted to crack or lift letters-did you not see this in their agreement paperwork? I have owned 3 different models over the years and they all do this; the lettering also discolors (deliacte machine wash cycle and hang dry, with appropriate detergent for delicate garments) so maybe it is good that it falls off. The fit can be variable, some models very good, some cause chafing on longer rides (55-65 miles with a lot of climbing). I like their jerseys better than their pants.
I got about 6 rides is when these. After 2 washes the lettering started to peel off. After 5 rides the stitching around the pads started to rip.
Decent Fit Horrible Lettering....
Okay, these are okay shorts, decent fit and chamois. Logged 200+ mtn and road. As other people have mentioned the lettering and logo is awful. The castelli logo came off after first ride. Letters are gradually falling off after 5 or so washes. Ridiculous for the price of these shorts. Going to keep the shorts because the lettering isn't that big of a deal. I would expect better quality for the brand and price. I'll stick with pearl izumi's moving forward....
Heat pressed lettering was bubbling and starting to come off after 1 week of use (2 washes). These are reasonably comfortable and the pad works pretty well, but is big. Compression is minimal. These are not cheap shorts and the lettering should not come off after 1 week. Thank goodness for Realcyclist's great return policy, these will be going back.
need I say more?
I think worn and washed five times (25 mile rides)
this is a view of the pad
this is possibly an abrasion on the inner thigh that I have never gotten on any other short
not great (or even good)
I have shorts from several companies and this was my first pair from Castelli. I know they have a good reputation and a lot of fans but these shorts must not be a good example of their work. The letters and logo are silk screened on and are already cracked and failing after a couple of weeks of ownership. They are not particularly comfortable and don't provide much compression. They are not the worst pair of shorts I own but that is not much of an endorsement. I prefer my PI "Attack" shorts which are what I would consider base line (and even the "Attacks" are not something I would consider purchasing again). I got these on sale here and I am considering returning them.
I own 2 pairs of the Castelli Presto shorts. They are really comfortable for me. I bike 70 plus miles without any discomfort. Yes the graphics do tend to peel after time, even though I hand wash and hang dry. Even with that flaw, I do plan on ordering another pair soon because they are very comfortable, and that is the key. I'm 5' 6" @ 180 lbs, and a medium fits me perfect.
These are great shorts. Great fit, great chamois. I'm 5'10" 170lbs and the Large fits perfectly. I've had no issues with the peeling graphics stated below - I guess all washing machines are not created equal.
Just bought my second pair. Love these things. The chamois is just the right thickness and is in all the right places. For the price I don't think you can get a better pair of shorts. I'm 5-9, 155lbs and a medium fits me perfect.
How do you determine the size if your waist...
How do you determine the size if your waist is 34"
great mid level short
vastly superior styling as compared to solid black bike shorts, chamois has proven to be quite reliable over medium to long distance rides, my longest wearing these being 62 miles, not quite the level of my more expensive bibs, but for the price and the style, well worth it. I am 6'1" 175lbs with a 32 waist, I got the large, they fit pretty snug, I probably could've got away with the xl as well.
I like the firm feel of the Chamois on these Prestos. I have other Castelli shorts with the Kiss chamois but they're thinner and softer. Also good stitching and overall construction. Good value (especially on sale).
Castelli Presto Short - Men's
I am 511 tall, and I weight 172lbs. I first purchased large and the large was too tight. I returned the large size shorts, and I purchased the XL shorts, and the XL shorts fit perfect.
Also a 36"
Interesting...I see 2 guys comment that they have a 36" waist. One says kinda snug. Other says maybe he could have gone to a smaller size.
So, it must have to do with the shape of the body. I also have a 36" waist, and so I ordered the XL.
The shorts fit fine in the waist, and I really liked how the legs felt and looked.
But the area through the hips was too small on me -- I guess I'd have to go with an XXL, but I just ended up returning the ones I ordered.
Look great, feel great
I was tired of just plain old black bike shorts. I wanted something with a little more style, but without sacrificing functionality. I got it. I've had these for about 3 weeks and 400 miles, and so far, no complaints. The size indicated on these shorts are smaller than what you might expect, so if you are on the border between sizes, go up! I have a 32 waist and got the large. I'm glad I did because a medium would NOT have fit.
