Caviar for the price of pasta.

Contrary to popular belief, quality doesn't require a refinance on your mortgage. In fact, with pieces like the Castelli Presto Due Shorts, you'll put down more base miles in comfort than you will dollar bills.

For the construction, Castelli made the Presto Due from its Affinity Lycra fabric. This material features the hold and support that we know from Lycra, however, Affinity provides more stretch and elasticity than many other Lycra iterations. You'll also find that the material is incredibly light and soft -- 190 gram fabric weight, actually. This converts to around 140 denier, which, in the real world, translates to a slightly compressive fit and high thread count per centimeter. So, this means that your muscles will be protected from the fatigue-causing effects of road vibration and oscillation. But, why is the high thread count important? In a word, abrasion. By compacting the threads, Affinity becomes less course, lighter weight, and more gentle on the skin. Additionally, the fabric has been designed to be an effective moisture manager. So, during long, hard exertions, Affinity will pull moisture from the skin and transport it to the material's quick-drying surface.

In terms of fit, Castelli designed the Presto Due shorts around the cycling position. Essentially, this means that the multi-paneled pattern has been cut on a contour -- you'll notice this when the shorts are merely hanging. So, the shorts' anatomic design allows for a full-range of movement without the risk of fabric pinching, bunching, or chafing.

And extending the Presto's range of comfort, Castelli included its venerable Kiss3 chamois. For a point of reference, Castelli only makes two road inserts, the Progetto X and the Kiss 3. So, it's evident that this chamois receives Castelli's unwavering vote of confidence. This is further reinforced by Castelli engineering-in many of the Progetto's key traits, only at more cost-effective price. Starting at the surface, the Kiss3 uses a skin-care layer comprised of a bacteriostatic fabric that conforms to the body without folding. The material supports airflow, and aids in evaporation. The second layer is multi-density foam with continuously variable thickness where you need it, not where you don't. So where is it placed? Well, Castelli made sure to maximize thickness at the highly-sensitive ishial and to moderate thickness at the perineum pressure regions. Additionally, the insert has a minimal density along the perimeter. This translates directly to insert flexibility, so, you won't experience any uncomfortable riding or pinching.

The Castelli Presto Due Shorts are available in six sizes from Small to XXX-Large and in the colors Black/white, Red/white/black, and White/anthracite/black.

Best short I ever purchased

  • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

I have never written a review and just order 3 more pairs. I rode in a down pour for 2 hours today and not so much as a red mark on my inner thighs. It seems small at first but after wearing 30 minutes it was like a glove. I just felt these shorts deserve mention as they truly are the best fitting short I own. I purchased probably 10 plus pairs a year and try on another 15-20 per year!

Very comfortable

  • Familiarity: I've used it several times

Wore these shorts several times now and found them very comfortable. They fit snugly which I like. The cushioning is just right for my tastes. I've worn them for rides from 40 to 80 miles with great results.

Good for the trainer...

  • Gender: Male
  • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

Bought these shorts to use on the trainer during the cold winter months. I wouldn't use these out on the mean summer streets because I found they held too tightly to my torso. Overall they're excellent for those quick 1 hour trainer days.

Very happy with them

  • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

I love them.... the pad is very soft. I have use them only for mountain bike. I´m 76kg / 5.6" I have the large and fits me very good. If you are a bit fatter even you are smaller you should order XL because they are a little tight around the abdomen.

Very happy with them

Order one-size up

  • Familiarity: I returned this product before using it

I originally ordered a medium, since I have a 31-inch waist, but when I tried these on they were extremely small. I've hear that Italian sizing is different than American sizing, and that Castelli tends to size small. I replaced the medium with a large it fit much better. If you order, be sure to order a size larger than normal. Otherwise, quality of the short was nice. Overall a good short (except for the sizing)

Possibly the best for the price

  • Gender: Male
  • Familiarity: I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions

I ride a road bike and I like to take at least one long (70+ miles) a week, so I spend a lot of time in the saddle. After trying several different shorts, these seem to strike a balance between cost and performance. They aren't cheap, but for the price, they are the most comfortable I've worn. I've only done four rides so far, but three of those were over 65-miles, so I can say that they perform well on long rides. Normally 50-miles is the point where I start to feel mild discomfort, but these took me to 75-miles with very limited discomfort. I'm looking forward to centuries wearing these each of the next two weekends.

Only issue was that the stitching of my first pair came loose after only two rides. They've been replaced and we'll see about the longevity. That's the only thing preventing a 5-star rating. At this price, there shouldn't be defects in stitching.
