Description

Earn your palmares.

The bib shorts market has no shortage of high-dollar offerings packed with amazing features to satisfy the speed-seeking customer. However, even the competitive rider can find tremendous value in a pair of bib shorts that provide day-to-day versatility with everyday comfort and convenience. The Castelli Palmares Due Women's Bib Shorts are a suitable option for the rider who wants a 'daily-driver' pair of bib shorts with long-lasting security, excellent moisture management, and soft-to-the-touch fabrics.

These bib shorts are constructed with Castelli's high stretch and exceptionally breathable Softflex RS fabric in order to combine a luxurious cotton-like softness with lightly compressive support . If your compressive knowledge is a little rusty, this support basically reduces fatigue by dissipating the amount of road vibration that's transmitted into your legs. You'll find that the benefits are most pronounced on long rides and over multi-day tours.

The cut is designed to be flattering without losing the support you'd expect from a pair of bib shorts. The bib straps are anatomically designed around a woman's body and are constructed in mesh in order to provide maximum breathability. A small window on the back of the uppers brings increased airflow to the small of the back, just underneath the area where your packed jersey pockets may otherwise reduce breathability. A strip of extra soft microfiber intervenes between the bibs and the main body of the shorts as to eliminate any sharp binding or pinching at your midsection. This also smooths out any unflattering undulations in the process. Microfiber, lay-flat leg cuffs with soft silicone grippers hold the bib shorts in place vertically in order to create a secure fit from shoulder to leg cuff.

Castelli chose its women's-specific Kiss3 chamois for the Palmares Due. The Kiss3 has a soft microfiber surface with a bacteriostatic treatment that reduces irritation and abrasion. Its padding is designed with variable density to be thicker and denser under your sit bones, then tapering off toward the front. The shape is anatomically designed to a woman's body, creating a perfect harmony between you and your saddle. Of course, while softness, variable density, and anatomic design are necessary for a superior chamois, they're not entirely sufficient. As Castelli sees it, a superior chamois must be in perfect choreography with your body in order to avoid unpleasant friction. The Kiss3 scores high marks in this regard by having the flexibility to move with your body in all directions, mile after mile.

The Castelli Palmares Due Women's Bib Shorts are available in five sizes from X-Small to X-Large and in the color Black. Please note that Castelli estimates a useful temperature range of about 63 to 95 degrees Fahrenheit for these bib shorts.

Dig in

  • Familiarity: I returned this product before using it

I'm a 5'2" woman and I have a pair of men's bibshorts, size xs, that I ordered through my cycling team that I love. I ordered a pair of xs Due Palmares shorts, and they fit perfectly in the hips area - not too much fabric, as is the case in many shorts, not too tight - however they dig in in the belly where the white trim comes across the front, and I would say I'm a pretty average waist for my height. The leg grips are also not as comfortable as my team shorts - they have a double layer of fabric with silicone grippers that are a little itchy, versus the paper-thin grippers on my team shorts. I would order up a size to solve the digging in at the waist, but I don't think the butt would fit as well, and unfortunately I didn't like the rest of the features as much as I thought I would.

Not up to Castelli Standards

  • Gender: Female
  • Familiarity: I've used it several times

My boyfriend introduced me to Castelli gear and I love it so I was expecting the same from these. I love the length of these cause they're kind of short and I have great cycling legs that I like to show off; but, that's where my love affair begins and ends. These bib shorts fall short of what I've come to expect from Castelli. Even though the Chamois is the same in my other Castelli shorts (Kiss3 Donna), something just isn't right with these. I am constantly readjusting and rearranging. They may be good for a short ride but anything over 2 hours and you'll regret wearing them. Do yourself a favor and invest in any other Castelli shorts/bib other than these.
