Unless you're a professional, you probably spend a lot of time riding without a team around you. And even if you are a professional, having another pair of low-profile, all-black shorts is never a bad thing. The Castelli Nero Classic Bib Shorts, as the name would imply, only come in one color. Fortunately, that one color is black, and they will pair perfectly with any jersey.

The limited edition Nero Classic Bib Shorts utilize some of Castelli's time-tested technologies, including a KISS3 chamois and Action Micro fabric. The result is a pair of bib shorts that are lightweight yet durable and comfortable yet stylish. The Action Micro is used throughout the legs of the shorts to wick moisture away from your skin while you're riding. Breathe Lycra is used in the bib straps and is a mesh fabric designed to move moisture rapidly away from your skin without compromising any breathability.

The KISS3 chamois is one of Castelli's longest-running models, and with good reason. It has an extremely low profile while still providing the support and comfort necessary on long rides. It has multiple densities of foam padding, with the highest-density foam placed right under your sit bones. In short, it'll keep you comfortable without making you feel like you're wearing a diaper.

The Castelli Nero Classic Bib Shorts are Black and come in six sizes from Small to XXX-Large.

  • Action Micro fabric in the saddle area provides excellent durability, while Breathe Lycra moves moisture away from your skin
  • KISS 3 chamois conforms to your shape for optimum comfort
  • Giro++ leg grippers keep everything in place.

Here's what others have to say...

Sizing issue

I went up one size and had to return them for the next size up. They are cut short in the legs and torso. They still fit snug, other than that, for the money, I'm happy with them. I don't know how they will wear. If i get one season out of them, I will be happy.

    Poor quality

I loved these bib shorts. That was until after about two months of regular on the road use the seam up the middle just above the chamois pad ripped free. Then one ride after that, the chamois itself has start to come free from the short.
At 6'1" tall and 180-185 pounds, the xl was a good fit. A bit high in the front for my liking, making pit stops a pain.
The all black traditional look was awesome, but the workmanship and quality just weren't there. I understand the price is indicative of quality, but I was at least hoping to get one full riding season out of them.

      Had to return the item

They didn't tell me about the return labels until after I returned it and they would not refund shipping. Just the cost of the item. Unlike a couple of other companies I use to get the exact same products. It is interesting how a company would rather lose a customer then refund relatively small shipping charges. I will be spending my money elsewhere.

i agree 100% ,they stuck it to me too ,better get the size right the first time or pay s&h 2x

if you set up an exchange with them online throught the chat option, they will not charge you to ship the new item

if you EXCHANGE, they wont charge shipping again..But a ton of companies don't refund return shipping and their return policy is the most lenient i've ever dealt with

        In Love

I couldn't be happier with these. The build quality is really good, they are comfortable, and have a good pad. Perhaps to some extent I'm benefiting as much from finally upgrading from padded cycling shorts to bibs, but these are fantastic.
I’m 5’11” and a big Clydesdale at 275 (started cycling at 335 lbs); still working off a big belly so I was wearing a sleeveless t-shirt under my jerseys because the jerseys would leave some belly hanging out (I know, I know, not pretty). With these bibs I’m covered up until about my navel so I can finally lose the t-shirt/jersey combo and just rock the jersey which is much cooler for airflow and wicking. For what it’s worth I wear a Pearl Izumi Attack line jersey which is a bit roomier for a big rider. I wear a pair of Under Armour exercise shorts over the bibs because I’m not comfortable yet just wearing the bibs.
My measurements are 5’11”, 40” waist, 50" chest, and a short inseam of about 29”. I have the XXXL size.

way to go bud! That's 60 pounds you've dropped on a healthy habit. I just ordered a pair based on your review. i'm 6'2" and weigh 250. I'm worried about the straps being too short for me based on some other reviews but for the price it's worth a shot.

          Sized short and wide

This is my second pair of bibs from Castelli. I purchased the Velocissimo bibs in size large and they have been wonderfull (I'm 6' 190lb 36" waist 40" hips). I bought the Neros thinking they might be the same quality with a more simple short. The fit was small and odd. Labeled same size as the Velocissimos but they were too small in length through the suspenders as well as the legs. I tried to pass them off to a shorter friend before returning and he thought they were wide through the mid section. Maybe they are for short and heavy folks? I did notice upon double checking the size of my older pair that they were made in two different places, Morocco (Nero) El Salvador (Velocissimo).

            Good, not great.

This was my first bib, and even though it was miles better than a short, it left something to be desired. The seams rub after about twenty miles, but did not cause me to chafe. I can wear them on rides no longer than 35 or 40 miles. The chamois seems to pad well in the front, but leaves my backside a little sore. That said, I will never buy a regular short again. The look is very good, though. The scorpion logo for this price? Totally worth it.

              Good Shorts

Sure the are a little bit short.... like mid thigh short. I am 6ft and 175lbs and have a normal build. As in my torso or legs are not super long. That being said the shorts fit well and are comfortable. Well done Castelli.

I have the same reaction. I'm 6' 0", 180 lb., longer in the torso than the legs, and the Large is the right fit, but shorter on the thighs than I like.

I am 5'9" and around 240 lbs and an intermideate road cyclist. Purchased the 3xl size and have no problem with these bib shorts as they fit my body just fine and I have logged over 100 miles in 25 mile increments over the last few weeks and have had no issues with comfort and really like this product and will by more. My initial concern was padding and shoulder straps, but have had no chaffing in either place. Would like to see in dual colors for same price. Thanks!

                A disappointment

Got the Nero Classics Bib Shorts a couple weeks ago and they have been a major disappointment: they have a regular (not flatlocked) seam on their lower back that is pretty stiff and pronounced—even after washing. This seam rubs pretty badly against my lower back and produces red marks after only short rides (less than two hours). I can’t imagine ever wearing this bib on anything longer. This seems like a pretty broken design—I never seen a seam like this on any other short!

Their sizing also appears off: I’m 6.1 (180 LB) and normally comfortably wear a Large. This Large fits me OK around the waist, but the bib’s shoulder straps are way too short.
